GMTV (1993 - 2010)

Can anyone confirm or does anyone know if Emma's last day on GMTV is 3rd Sept?

I cannot confirm but would expect Emma & Kate rotating until the last day with Andrew

Maybe they could have all 3 present the last day together .

If Kate is working on Daybreak I could imagine they'll finish her a couple of weeks earlier.

They might do to get her away from the "GMTV image". Plus I suppose she'll take a holiday.
So she might only have a couple of weeks left on GMTV.

Has Kate not had her Holiday this summer (Emma did a full week last month?)and wasn't on screen today either. Kate won't be on screen as much from September, as in on the sofa daily (so would that require the need for another Holiday after already using her Holiday quota already).

Between the two Ladies and Andrew I think they will all present the last programme.

I imagine Kate will have some rehersals in the new set over the next couple of weeks which means she won't appear on screen, however I think she will return for the last day, much like Alistair Stewart did when LNN transferred to ITN, he spent about 3 weeks away rehersing and then reappeared for the last main bulletin.

I know ITV will want to big up Daybreak & the launch, but I hope that GMTV doesn't go out with a whimper. It's been the breakfast brand (all be it station & now programme) for the best part of 18 years, I hope that they a look back over the many years, and maybe welcome back a few old faces.

I wonder if Eamonn Holmes would make an appearance with it now being under ITV control. It would be interesting to see Eamonn & Fiona for one more time. Maybe that's just a bit of reminiscence creeping in.

Fiona might as she was on Lorraine's slot the other week. But I'm sure Eamonn was suppose to be a bit bitter at not getting the Daybreak job ( although that's proberbly just newspaper talk!)

No expert on GMTV - it isn't a programme I would normally watch - but I'm reminded that the single biggest change to BBC breakfast tv happened in a relatively low key way.

In 1986 Breakfast Time was overhauled dramatically. The sofa, the sweaters, all but one of the main presenters and most of the light features went. In came harder news, desks, suits and Jeremy Paxman and Sally Magnusson as a regular. This change was much more dramatic, from the viewers point of view, than the change to BBC Breakfast News and later BBC Breakfast - all of which were essentially evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

Yet, on the last Friday of the old Breakfast Time there wasn't much warning of what was to come nor were the departing members of the team given much of an on-screen send off. (And unbelievable as this may seem now, when taking breakfast tv upmarket and making it newsier was undoubtedly the right thing to do long term, there was quite a lot of criticism of the new format initially.)

And rightly so, it was far too jarring a change and the old format could have continued with a few tweaks. In a way the Breakfast we have now - with the sofas and banter - is what they should have changed the old Breakfast Time to, as opposed to relentless desks, getting Paxman in as a presenter and turning it into basically the Nine O'Clock News.

Anyway, perhaps one of the reasons for the lack of warning was that the relaunch was delayed by several weeks while they sorted out staffing levels and so forth, they were threats of strike action, and indeed the relaunch was billed in the Radio Times for mid-October (illustrated by a cartoon of a workman taking the sun logo off the wall) to coincide with the launch of daytime TV, but it didn't happen, they just carried on with the old format for another few weeks before finally relaunching in mid-November. So having already announced it once, they probably didn't need to announce it again. I wonder how they convinced all the people who were leaving to stay on for another month.
