Didn't get a chance to catch GMTV this morning - were the changes Cross Channel told us about anything big?

Nothing much, basically they don't use the little inset of video in the TOTH or Coming up sequence, just the caption bar at the bottom, the coming up version the same, except the time is hard to read as it has no backer. The camera angle on the News Area was just like we saw on the day of the power cut, just a presenter. The screen has been moved to the side, so when the News Desk presenter hands over to say, Elaine Wilcox, the angle changes so you can see the screen that has the reporter on.

I don't understand why they are bothering with these little tweaks if they are launching a new show, in a new studio, with new presenters in little over two months time!

Trying out presentation ideas and seeing how things work out is quite sensible,

And it was pretty much Kate Garraway presenting on her own this morning, although John Stapleton is supposed to be on tomorrow according to some listings.

New music almost complete.
Titles work starting.
Name HAS been decided. Confirmed as I posted a few weeks ago.
'ITV Breakfast' is a convenient red-herring.
Of the editorial and technical plans so far - BBC should be very worried

Will they actually bother to use it this time round?

Titles work starting.

Any hints on what they're going to be like?

So, DayBreak? Confused

'ITV Breakfast' is a convenient red-herring.

Thank God.

Your TVF neck is now officially on the line, Anoilyrag, if the new programme is deemed a failure! Wink

Thanks for the update anoilyrag!

So is the music any good ? Better or worse or as good as current music? (if you've heard it that is!)

I think 'ITV Breakfast' is a good red herring cause you hear that and think it's a bit crap ( as it's been in a few off the newsapers) and then you hear Daybreak - which is automatically better! Any ideas on wether it'll be ITV Daybreak or just normal daybreak?

So on the "editorial and technical plans so far" any things you can reveal?

As you've said the BBC should be worried - As House just posted, your TVF neck is on the line! Laughing
Although as you've said the bbc should be worried i expect it must be quite good!

Face... bovvered?
In all seriousness, I'm also hearing BBC Breakfast are planning a relaunch from September. More news content, same presenters, same studio, new graphics.
My money is on the one which is spending £10m on presenters, studio, branding/titles, new management.

I wonder if Ian White over @ BBC Look North, Leeds will want to get the brand rights, to go with TV-AM?

You would say that of course! Wink

In reality though there's no way of telling 10 weeks in advance how it will go. There are plenty of examples of big TV launches/re-launches which are hyped-up and show great promise, have lots of money spent on them that die on their arse and then either get axed, reversed or revised. I'm sure the creators of Rise, or the original GMTV in 1993 thought they were going to 'worry' the BBC too.

I hope it works, because it sounds quite good (even though I'm never up in time to watch breakfast TV!). However audiences are fickle and the press won't take any prisoners if it doesn't do well, especially after the Chiles/Bleakley saga thrust the relaunch into their conciousness .

I do wonder whether ITV are throwing the baby out with the bathwater to a certain extent. It does sound like they're moving towards BBC territory when until now there's been a quite a difference in terms of content, style and audience between ITV and BBC1 at breakfast.

Yes...

I'm pleased you think it's going to be a success - if ITV have low expectations for this then it's bound to fail. But at the same time the BBC doesn't need to throw £10m at a relaunch, given that they win the ratings, have popular presenters and have a good, solid brand that isn't supposedly tarnished.

I'm not saying the new ITV morning programme won't be great, nor that it can't/won't beat Breakfast, but rather that throwing £10 million at a brand new show is proof of GMTV's current bad state, not of ITV's strength.

Well that's turned out useful for him. I suspect though that although the brand is being dropped on air the new show will essentially be produced by "GMTV" (though under the ITV Studios tag), and the company may still remain if it's beneficial to ITV to keep it as a separate operation.
