Surely they'll strike some sort of amicable agreement regarding branding, otherwise what would prevent ITV from reacting to any "awkwardness" from STV by promoting programmes as being on "ITV1 (in) Scotland"?
What do they do now about trails during GMTV?
I'm sure that ITV will try and get rid of that odd 9:25 programme junction, but it won't necessarily be something that STV, UTV and Channel will object to, after all what would they lose?
You could have a Carlton/LWT 90s situation where the "switch" comes mid-programme, but the break revenue gets divided up according to who holds the licence at that time.
Once ITV's 100% ownership of GMTV was confirmed by the OFT and Ofcom raised no objections, then there's no reason for STV, UTV or Channel to complain. It's not in their licenced hours. Should ITV propose that the licence time be altered, which afaik they have not then the NI, Scot and CI licencees then could complain and almost certainly would.

Or like what has happened with GMTV at the weekends in the past

There is one way ITV could get around this, IE move the 09.25 slot etc:
Give UTV, STV, the advertisement rights and give them control over the local news. that is the only way ITV will ever be able to move the time slots around.

Not really. Thinking about it, if ITV did carry over Lorraine's programme to 9.30, there would be room between that and Jeremy Kyle for an extra ad break for UTV and STV so they would actually benefit from such a move.

I can see STV deliberately scheduling a local programme at 9.25 just to be awkward.
What's
that
supposed to mean?
STV's viewers know the channel as STV - not ITV1. I'd say it would be pretty stupid to reinforce someone else's brand when they've got a much better identity that their viewers expect to see.
Does that mean they're being "awkward"?
I image if you still had Yorkshire television you wouldn't have put it in those terms..
But then of course you don't, do you.
I think you misunderstand me, Gavin.
I was suggesting that ITV plc might find it awkward is STV decided (as they're perfectly entitled to do) to run local programmes at 9.25am, because it would effectively scupper any plans they have to run a programme between 9.00 straight through to 10.00, and more or less forces them to keep the current schedule as they would need to provide an opt-out point for STV at 9.25.
Given the recent history of relations between STV and ITV plc (witness The Bill and various dramas which STV have dropped) it's not too big a stretch to think that STV might schedule in that manner to be difficult, and not let ITV plc forget that they're not the whole of ITV.
Making life difficult for ITV plc is something which I would very much endorse.

Pure idle speculation but I don't think Lorainne would want to do the One Show. If the BBC were to offer her a programme similar to her current show on GMTV but maybe produced in Scotland, I reckon that could swing it for her. Afterall she dropped down to two days a week so she could spend more time north of the border.
