To be clear -
- New show will not be under ITV News editorial control
- ITN bidding for supply of bulletins, nothing signed
- This is a new show. GMTV final show will be September 3rd
- Christine Bleakley has not signed for ITV or the BBC yet, alternatives being considered.
- New show is big and mischievous. Lots of steadycam

Is the new show going to as a separate company like GMTV with its own production or is this going to be under the ITV studios team?

Neither it'll be an ITV Production not ITV Studios.

I thought ITV Productions had been replaced by ITV Studios

But ITV Studio's is just the new name for ITV Productions.

I am not believing anything I read in the papers EVER AGAIN! Today, the Sunday Star (OK, so not the most accurate source) is reporting Christine Bleakley HAS signed for the BBC, she HAS signed for 'James Grant' management. I mean, come on...where have they been! It' been reported in every other newspaper that she has signed with Adrian Chiles' management company and she put a statement on the website stating she had not made a decision and that she was "torn". How can we be expected to believe any newspaper report when they are clearly making them up, take the Mirror article last week that quoted Christine as saying she was staying with the BBC. Following her statement the next day, that article was clearly untrue as well! EERRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!! I am just going to wait for GMTV's (or Day/Daybreak whatever) announcement.

The Star has never hidden that it makes up stories, and today's really just makes a point of how ridiculous all this wild speculation is. It all serves to benefit her though, she does owe it all to Adrian Chiles though.

yeah that's why I though about the mirror article too, not even saying an insider said, but actally saying christine said " I'm defiantely staying at the BBC"

I'll only belive it's true, if it's on the Media Guardian website, ITV Press centre website or Avalon Management site.

Does anyone believe a publication owned by Richard Desmond or Rupert Murdoch? (he says doing his best Ian Hislop impersonation!) Laughing

Isn't that because the previous formats were the most popular, and that the new breakfast services had very different formats in order to create a distinction? Out with the old, in with the new, etc, even if it meant getting rid of a successful set-up. The current GMTV format, however, is not popular if we're to judge from the ratings

It's successful though in terms of the longevity of the format rather than who's currently watching, it's tried and tested and being replaced by something that's not. GMTV's problems aren't all down to audience figures of course

Quote:
so who's to say that the newer format - more news and current affairs - won't be successful?

Only precident.
Outside of the BBC, the only successful breakfast TV launch was the Big Breakfast - TVam launch - disaster, GMTV launch - disaster. The Big Breakfast's many relaunches - all reversed, RI:SE - huge flop

Quote:
It certainly wouldn't be beneficial for ITV to revert back to the current unpopular format.

If the new one is a huge flop then it would absolutely be beneficial to dust the sofa off and go back to basics... like they did in 1993

Of course that's not to say that I want this new programme to be a disaster, just that the historical omens aren't good

'ITV Anything' is silly because 99% of people don't know that the 6 - 9.25 slot is technically a separate channel

I don't think it's ever been 'technically a separate channel' - a separate license/franchise yes but it's always been the same channel or television service as the rest of ITV.

The distinction is all but dead now and will disappear almost totally in September (well in England and Wales if not Scotland and NI). Not before time too, it's an outdated historical anomaly

I can imagine that within the next couple of years, ITV might buy out the remaining francises I.e STV, UTV.

Although would they be allowed to do that?

Oh yes LOTS of steadycam.

- so It seems the news will be linked to the itv news. News updates from ITV News?
- ITN are likely to win the bid i expect ( well ITV do own a large chunk of ITN don't they!)
- any indication of whether Christine is likely to be signed? Or any other the alterantives?

That's rather like saying BBC Four and CBeebies are the same channel because they share the same broadcasting frequency etc.

I thought that the C3 Breakfast service was always seen as both legally and technically a separate channel. There was originally a gap in transmission between 9:15 and 9:30 while some manual technical 'stuff' was done to change from TV-am to the regional ITV companies.

They have different channel numbers, as far as the viewer is aware. They may be on the same frequency, but that is unknown to the average viewer.
