Yep - there's a real difference between a programme name (This Morning, Midsomer Murders) and output from a department (ITV News, ITV Weather, ITV Sport) etc.

Surely ITV would put the Editorial control under someone in the 'ITV News' department? It would make sense.

Even if the programme/channel/brand was labelled just 'Daybreak', it would then seem sensible to have an 'ITV News' logo somewhere on the screen, in the same way the BBC do with their early morning programme.

Ah - but that's a branding rather than a naming issue... If the show is part of the ITV News brand then it might get some ITV News branding in addition to whatever it is called IF they want to associate it with that brand in on-screen terms. Editorial and brand controls aren't always linked.

BBC News had editorial control over BBC Three's Liquid News programme and 60 Seconds - but that had absolutely no BBC News branding on it because they didn't want to be part of the on-screen brand. (60 Seconds is now more BBC News branded - but 7 or 8 years ago it wasn't)

To be clear -
- New show will not be under ITV News editorial control
- ITN bidding for supply of bulletins, nothing signed
- This is a new show. GMTV final show will be September 3rd
- Christine Bleakley has not signed for ITV or the BBC yet, alternatives being considered.
- New show is big and mischievous. Lots of steadycam

With the Dep Ed they've got I can certainly believe it. Though Steadicam in the old London Tonight studio space will be interesting. (Isn't it a bit small to give much benefit significantly over a well operated hand-held ?)

Is the new show going to as a separate company like GMTV with its own production or is this going to be under the ITV studios team?

Neither it'll be an ITV Production not ITV Studios.
