I think this article is a bit far fetched.

To start with Penny was offered another role on the show but decided to leave of her own accord. Also GMTV is still a company and is still a breakfast franchise for the whole ITV network so it has obligations to fulfill. So the show taking a break is quite unlikely IMHO.

Also to scrap all the recognised faces? maybe a change of odd one or two, but lets not forget its more the content not the faces as the main reason ratings have dipped.

No Meridian News at 7.05 this morning... instead we got West Country News.

It was obviously planned, the presenter from West Country welcomed viewers from Meridian who were watching West Country due to 'technical reasons'. We also got West Country at 6:35 and the presenter welcomed Meridian viewers then too. Penny Smith mentioned the problems at 06:40 as well.

Meridian returned for the 7:35 bulletin and Amanda Piper mentioned 'outside technical problems' at the end.

Thanks for clarifying... I was still asleep at 6.30. Very Happy

Me too and I don't watch GMTV anyway. I record it and rely on this thread to tell me if anything interesting such as this happens.

Could Christine Bleakley be on her way to GMTV?

ITV now own GMTV outright though - and I doubt the franchise goes as far as stipulating a live show in the slot. They could easily put the usual daytime filler in the slot for a few weeks - but wouldn't be a wise idea at all.

As a brand though GMTV looks to be finished, so I think ITV should do everyone a favour and announce they're axing GMTV and replacing it with a new show, rather than making it look like everyone is being axed from GMTV.

The franchise holders for various ITV regions are still Border TV, Tyne Tees, Granada etc. But, to all intents and purposes, apart from for advertising, the English regions are no more, with news operations straddling the former boundaries with OFCOM's blessing. "GMTV" may hold the franchise for the 6a.m. to 9.25a.m. slot but, since ITV now own the company, they can probably do what they like, provided they continue with a news and features type operation in the slot. GMTV is so bad, I rarely watch it these days.

I have to say that lately, between the hours i watch (7-Coolm GMTV has been performing very well. This morning, the TOTH's felt very proffessional, and the winning paring of Emma and Andrew is behind this i think. It would be a shame if Emma went, she has really grown on me!
Although I am very confused as to why GMTV insists on airing promo's that are toally celeb-centric!! At a time when they want to go newsy, you'd have thought they would want to start trying different news based ideas now! Unless this is meant to be the case so in september everything is dramatically different?? I doubt it.

However, i also think that (now excuse me if a contradict my self here) the celeb features do wonders for GMTV.(or not) For example, Sally Whitacker (Corrie's Sally Webster) was interviewd on GMTV, and since then, many newspaper articles have splashed the news over their front pages, whilst continually making reference to GMTV - cheap advertising methinks! On the other hand, popular BBC Breakfast is nearly never in magazines or mentioned in news articles, yet seems to do better in the ratings! Lose lose situation for GMTV at the mo!

I like the idea of 'ITV Breakfast' tho!! (Thats regarding the suggestion on an article pasted earlier!)

I thought it had been confirmed here that the name was not changing and "ITV Breakfast" was rubbish. I wonder how "true", today's mail article is?! It makes out they do not want anything or anyone to do with GMTV in the re-launch, mention's Clare Nsir going but what about Kirsty McCabe. Says Richard Arnold is going (hopefully!) but what about Dan Lobb?! Surely they are not going to get rid of ALL GMTV presenters and reporters, that just would not make sense at all.

No ITV statement has ever confirmed or denied that the GMTV brand is being axed.

When Adrian Chiles was signed, ITV said he would be presenting 'GMTV', although it now seems the name will go.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this (and maybe its not reliable), but the Daily Mail article says Adrian Chiles will present for two hours. So could the newshour remain, or Lorraine start at 8am?

Also if they are having a total presenter clearout any word on who the relief presenters would be? And what about John Stapleton - is he remaining as special correspondent?
