Have a mate who's a news director, the latest plan apparently for September....

0600 ITV Morning News
0700 Adrian Chiles + AN Other GMTV Show
0900 Lorraine + live audience
1000 This Morning
1200 Loose Women

This would require the Ofcom scrapping of the breakfast licence I assume then?

ITV plc own GMTV, but they at the moment wouldn't have access to 9:25 - 10:00am in utv/stv/(Channel?) regions, unless they paid for it?

Or perhaps they have clear indications the breakfast licence will go. As someone else has said - ITV say jump, Ofcom asks 'how high'?

I refer you back to an earlier post by Cross Channel regarding this post:

Thanks Charlie, almost did that myself. I've heard a few of the names but ITV Day isn't one of them and as for starting an hour later well I can honestly say I haven't heard that anywhere.

Are you at liberty to leak a few of the possible names?!! Laughing Very Happy Smile

ITV could get around this by just keeping the show running but having an ad break at 09.25 to slit show in too. I be honset STV has not opt out of that slot in over 10 years!

I Seen this morning the GMTV Election promo with John Stapleton and James Mates... It is almost like GMTV and ITV - one happy family!

Kay Burley would be a great host - the perfect way to waste lots of money as GMTV goes dramatically down hill under a new name and someone who has an ego as big, if not bigger, than Chiles himself!

On a serious note, GMTV's problems are purely reputation and content, nothing more. The current presenters - while not necessarily big names - are more than adequate for the job (perhaps excluding Ben Shepard) and a rebrand, change of timings and new presenters are in no way going to solve that.

I think merging it more with ITV as a whole is likely to devalue GMTV and it's content, not make it more newsy and reputable. Equally I'd not like "BBC Daytime" each morning, going from a Gordon Brown interview to To Buy or Not to Buy.

Also, merging it with ITV runs the risk of bringing down the look of the company as a whole if this relaunch isn't the magic potion that people are expecting (btw I hope it is, I personally like ITV/GMTV but have been pushed towards Sunrise this year).

But it doesn't... There's a transition to magazine/lifestyle content from 0830-0915 to warm into daytime.

What are you talking about? It was a hypothetical example, applying ITV's potential situation to the BBC.

I was saying I wouldn't want it to be seen as a single programme, which could happen to GMTV if some are to be believed. The type of content on Breakfast, even towards the end, is very different to other elements of BBC One during the day. As Jugalug said, it was a hypothetical example.

It seems to imply the core viewers are overweight mothers with malnourished children doesn't it!
