Here are a few pairrings that I think would work well with Adrian:

Adrian - Helen
Adrian - Kate
Adrian - Lorraine

Personally, I would like to see a new GMTV dream team created with Helen. If GMTV do the weekend shows then I really hope that Emma and Andrew get to present it. Lorriane is probably not going to go to the main show, so that leaves Kate. I think they could kind of promote her to chief newsreader or something, with her on the news desk manning all the big stories and have more airtime than perhaps the newsreader currently gets.
That also puts doubt on Ben. I think he would work well on The One Show!!!!

Its a good format but I'm not sure that would work so well with GMTV due to the main audience. Obviously if getting a new audience is something they want to risk then there is no harm in trying it. But personally I think they should keep Kate as the lead female presenter and have Emma as the newsreader and Kate's cover.

If they kept Kate, its still a recognisable face and then they can do a full scale relaunch without turning viewers away.

I'd also like them to go back to the drawing board with the set, theres only so much you can do with a sofa and a fake backdrop and they've exhausted that look now.

I totally agree with everything you have said in the parts I have quoted! They definitely need to keep someone with a GMTV reputation, like Kate. Kate, Andrew and Ben are perhaps the only presenters that people associate with GMTV at the moment. I suppose the weather girls will stay but if you say 'GMTV weather girl' to someone, they may only just name Claire. And the set....Who know's what they will do. A few different versions should be drafted before a decision is made I think. Are ITV likely to design and contruct it inhouse? Or will an outside company get the shout??

however, I think that GMTV should not segment its shows. obviously Lorraine's will have separate branding but I think a move away from the traditional Newshour and Today parts is necessary

I notice this morning that Emma was talking to 'GMTV's Lucy Van Den Bruel' but didn't she leave a few years back? or is she a returnee?

I've only ever come across the 'One Show' or GMTV's programmes by accident in my normal routine and I haven't seen any presenters on either that would tempt me to choose either because of the mug in front of the camera.

Is this guy a loss to BBC?
Is he a gain for ITV?

I doubt it either way!

Oh btw, Dan Lobb was back today - and from the news room!!!
But his appearance also proved something - that you can still have presenter banter without the person being in the studio. There was a funny bit when John Stapleton was in the newsroom and there was quite a bit of banter between the sofa and the news desk. Even if all news operations go to the newsroom, rest assured that the infamous GMTV banter will remain!

A loss to the BBC??? - Perhaps because some of the shows he presents are extremely popular and in 2008, he was the most watched man on TV. His pairing with Christine on the one show was incredible so I guess its her who can take some credit for his reputation!

Gain for ITV?? - Perhaps not for ITV itself although he does have sport reporting experiece. But I think it is a gain for GMTV as it will certainly get people watching, maybe out of curiosity or maybe because his fans will follow him.

Either way, could both broadcasters live without him?? YES.

I watched that. Was quite funny and in a weird way, it was better with Dan being away. It started with Ben saying "Oh Dan, James May has E-Mailed, he wants his shirt back" and poor unsuspecting John in the background of the newsroom got dragged into it, to which Dan replied "John, go and make us a coffee will you, mate?". I hope GMTV don't lose when they relaunch. That is the reason I enjoy watching GMTV. If I wanted hardcore news, then I'd move to BBC Breakfast or Sky News Sunrise.

Looks like they're trying to drive Lorraine out which is a shame, but if she does go I have no doubt STV will snap her up in an instant. And then I'd guess Kate would end up getting that slot.

Good news about Helen too if true, I had no idea she was 43 though, she looks much younger!

Helen would be a great choice to join Adrian, as far as I know, she has no blatant political connections to a particular party, has worked for GMTV in the past, excellent on Five News which has a similar demographic.

It would wipe the slate clean at GMTV and viewers should give it a chance if this is the paring ITV want.

GMTV has always had a reputation of fluff. The BBC do news, whats the harm in ITV providing a lighter alternative? I really don't get the obsession with the insistence that GMTV needs to be a heavy news programme, or the myth that it once was.

That is why ditching the GMTV brand in favour of something new might be the best option. GMTV doesn't really know exactly what it is - a new brand, whether more newsy, or an unashamed lighter weight alternative to Breakfast, can set it's own agenda.

Then with the relaunch it can find out what it wants to be.

I guess it just comes down to how big a gamble ITV want to take. If they want to hopefully keep their audience and maybe build on it then keep the GMTV name, but if they want an entirely new audience and starting from scratch with reputation etc then come up with a new name.

But historically axing breakfast shows doesn't work and the 'new' show ends up how the old one was. As I've already said its a safety net if anything. They can completely overhaul GMTV but if it doesn't work then they can always go back to a similar set up with no real problems.

Big bosses care about ratings and figures. And little about what whether their audience will stay. obviously, because of the GMTV brand, most viewers are likely to stay anyway, purely because its what they are familiar with. GMTV want to attract new viewers, on top of those they have already. With this in mind, it is obvious that ITV will definitely want to become newsy in order to become the biggest breakfast show in Britain, but GMTV being GMTV, will still (i assume) have some lightweight items, maybe later on in the morning though to please the traditional viewer. Although i understand what you are saying. The show may be so different that even the stereotype GMTV viewer doesn't recognise the show. In this case, it will be an uphill struggle trying to get a new audience.

The GMTV brand is both toxic and magic at the same time. On one hand, it is very dangerous as no matter how big this relaunch coudld potentially be, it will have a lightweight reputuation for a while. On the other hand, GMTV is a well-loved brand and over time, could be built on to retain its current viewers and attract more. To do this, a bigger news output is clearly necessary.

I am a fan of GMTV at the moment and wouldn't mind it the program didn't become newsy, however, I accept that the most popular format at the moment in news.
