I think Adrian's a brilliant signing, and the kind of big name the show would never have been able to attract in previous years.

The benefit of ITV taking over is that they can do big deals and offer other things on the network. Also it's good to have a journalist back on the show instead of Ben....and someone who'll be more interested in the items they cover.

But the disadvantage being that all the money goes on the "stars" on (exclusive) contracts and little left for the substance of a programme.

What I don't get is, I thought they wanted GMTV to be more newsy, does Adrian have any journalistic background? I mean sport maybe but hard news? Could he interview the Prime Minister? I think it will be very interesting...

He's worked for the News of the World, Business Breakfast, Radio 4's "Financial World Tonight" and of course Working Lunch for a number of years and has also filed reports on Panorama. Compared to Ben Shephard and former tennis player Andrew Castle...

You really can't change a show too much before it becomes a new show.

But that is EXACTLY what it (GMTV) is going to be a new show and NOT a relaunched GMTV - think big, this news should give some indication of how big these changes are going to be.

I am beginning to get ever so slightly nervous at the sound of this relaunch. I knew it was going to be big, but the scale is simply huge. With Ben and Andrew likely to go, along with Kate and Emma perhaps, this will obviously become the biggest relaunch by a clear mile that the show has ever had. And a new show with the same name (GMTV) is an Idea that I personally would welcome!

I am also liking this rumour: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/2939459/Adrian-Chiles-wants-BBCs-One-Show-pal-Christine-Bleakley-to-join-him-at-GMTV.html

So I think now its time to turn to what this particular forum does best! To the revamp its self. Will we have a new logo, new theme tune, a reworked themetune, new graphics, new studio, new set...????

I enjoyed Ben and Emma's presenting this morning on GMTV - especially Emma who's news background adds depth to the news coverage on the show.

Another interesting article here:http://entertainment.stv.tv/tv/171376-adrian-chiles-6m-gmtv-disruption/
I hope that Myleen isn't signed!!

The format does work, just not with the current presenters. And Adrian probably isn't the right man to fix that problem.

The ratings would prove otherwise. I'm glad if the Daily Mirror report today is true that they're axing the main current sofa presenters (except Lorraine) is the best thing that could happen for GMTV in a very long time.

Another thing I hope is they dump the perceived Labour bias after the relaunch please.

Err - I think you'll find Adrian has already interviewed the Prime Minister, David Cameron and Nick Clegg on The One Show.

He has a strong journalistic background having presented a daily live business show for 10+ years, as well as reporting on Radio Four and being a major part of FiveLive. Compared to Ben and Andrew - he's Paxman... (He also did his NCTJ Journalism stuff at Cardiff Uni I believe - which has a very good reputation)

But you can't alienate the core audience and expect them to stick with a show that is so different. You need to build on your audience, not risk losing all of it. If they are getting rid of the lot of the presenters then I think it makes very good sense to have Lorraine moving onto the main show, of course if she wants to do it even if just 2-3 days a week. She is undoubtedly the most recognised face of GMTV and having her in the most prominent position just makes sense.

I do feel sorry for Emma though.

While GMTV is never going to be Newsnight (and shouldn't try to be) it desperatly needs to stretch it's reach beyond housewives. Bringing in Chile's is a risky move for him but an inspired coup for GMTV. I'd certainly be more inclined to watch with him at the helm if the format was radicaly overhauled to resmemble something decent.

Must confess, I would be MUCH more inclined to tune into GMTV with Chiles there.

He does make for watchable telly. At the very least I will be one of those flipping over out of curiosity.

If ITV do change the line-up completely, might they not be best dropping the GMTV brand all together and relaunching it as a completely new show - well, in name at least. In reality it would be to GMTV what GMTV was to TV:am.
