I've not seen much of Nina this week but what I have seen she has been great, far better than she is on ITV News. She seems a lot more natural at this kind of presenting.

Are they still billing it as 'GMTV with Lorraine'?

Yes no schedule change or title change

Nina appears to be presenting live today, instead of the usual 'Lorraine' set up with the Wed/Thurs shows being recorded. Obviously that's only because of Lorraines commute to Scotland.

Nina's doing a great job so far.

From reading the programme policy for 2010, it appears the station is going to go flat out news! However, (fortunately imo) although ITV will obviously have a huge input, the resources from ITN havent been mentioned.

http://www.gm.tv/about-us/47312-gmtv-statement-of-programme-policy-2010.html

I particularly like this bit:
Quote:
Our intention is to retain and grow the core GMTV audience our intention is also to compete more effectively with BBC1 in future and seek to appeal to a broader spectrum of viewers. In this context our top and urgent priority in 2010 will be to reinvigorate our news coverage.

GMTV Election Coverage - interesting to see no mention of Penny Smith

GMTV’s coverage will be clear, comprehensive, relevant and engaging. The programme will aim to carry both the first and the last interviews given by the party leaders at the beginning and end of the campaign trail, with John Stapleton individually grilling the three main party leaders in the days after the election is called. Meanwhile, on the road firsthand features from the various battle buses will come from Westminster Correspondent Sue Jameson with the Conservatives, Richard Gaisford with the Liberal Democrats and Cordelia Kretzschmar with Labour.

A ‘GMTV Floating Voting Panel’ will track the mood of undecided voters, with their changing opinions reflected on air and online through a graphic chart. On-location analysis of the televised debates with the party leaders will include body language experts and phonetic specialists who will give viewers an extra insight into the real story the politicians are telling that day.

The highly popular gm.tv website will feature state of the art software allowing users to instantly produce a “poll of that day’s polls” as well as a range of other innovative and interactive devices.

For the election itself, an impressive combination of both leading GMTV and ITV News correspondents will be at all of the key counts across the nations and regions. ITV’s regional viewers on that day will have access to significantly longer local bulletins giving a chance for the 16-strong network of ITV Regional satellite trucks to be serving not just ITV and GMTV News but also their own newsrooms closer to home.

Experienced journalists John Stapleton and Lorraine Kelly will be on the sofa on Day Two of the election to tell the breaking story of the result. In the heart of Westminster Ben Shepherd will be cross examining GMTV’s panel of floating voters, Kate Garraway will be waiting for the arrival of Britain’s next Prime Minister at the gates of Buckingham Palace, Mary Nightingale will give the lowdown on reaction from the ITV Election Night Party, Emma Crosby will be live from the City of London, and Andrew Castle will canvass the views of commuters as they awake to a new Government. James Mates and Julie Etchingham from ITV News will also be on hand to give the reaction from Downing Street and show the latest results and their context on hi-tech virtual studio graphics.

WOW!! I love the bit about Lorraine and John on the sofa together - it will be nice to see Lorraine be the journalist she once was. I am also glad that Kate has quite a good role to play however I don't see how Lorraine was chosen over her!

Couple of tweaks this morning. The news bulletins from 7am came from the newsroom.

Half the regular sofa had been used to create an election set in the news/kitchen area.

The main set looked odd on the wide shots with just the other half of the sofa revealing the uplights.
Looked like it needed a good clean!

That all sounds quite impressive and I imagine much of GMTV's coverage will be used throughout the media on that day. Its odd that Lorraine will be on the sofa though and it will be nice to see her on the main programme- I expected her to be completely detached from the election, although pairing her up with John makes it evident that it was supposed to be Penny. I'm surprised they didn't use Emma or Kate instead though.

The GMTV/ITV crossover should be interesting too, they should try and keep the two companies separate and bring them together for big events like this.

I noticed the tweaks today too- handing over to John whilst Kate & Andrew were presenting worked rather well, I guess this is what his new role will entail.

And Lorraine working a Friday too. Having read the full press release I am surprised to see no mention of Katie Derham, her past performance has been excellent. I am also surprised Nina is not involved in some way especially as she is doing GMTV at the moment.

I'm liking GMTV at the moment. Whilst it is clear that ITV have clearly had some input it does seem to be for the better which is great but also the core GMTV and its idependence remains intact. I'm pleased with the fact that the election is being covered so well and they seem to have a real structure and clear plan of action. GMTV will really regain some brownie points if they can continue in this vain and pull themselves back. I suppose it also shows how much better they can do when they really try! Lets hope this is the start of something really brill!

Someone has to do the lunchtime/evening news on Thursday 6th and someone has to do the lunchtime/evening/News at 10 on Friday 7th. And if Julie and Mary are working election night I'm guessing Katie and Nina maybe doing these bulletins
