The Mirror write-up is rubbish.
The only new bit of information is that Nina Hossain and Ruth Langsford will be covering Lorraine Kelly during the summer months, because GMTV want to the keep the show running all year around rather than resting for 8 weeks a year when Kelly is on holiday.

So 'GMTV with Lorraine' won't be with Lorraine? Confused

It's not the first time that has happened, many shows air without their titles presenters.

As GMTV's main bit is likely to become more newsy with the same presenters from 6am, it makes sense to leave the 8.30am-9.25am bit a fixed part of the schedule.

Well it will probably just be listed as GMTV, with Ruth/Nina taking over at 8.30am. Ruth I can see why they have chosen her, but Nina?!

I guess it confirms that This Morning won't be on over the summer.

I wonder how likely it is that GMTV will be renamed as 'This Morning'? Just a thought, seeing as it is arguably a much better and popular brand.

I think ITV won't be doing themselves many favours if this is true. A 6 hour programme (presumably broken down into different strands/formats) is a lot of air time for one show everyday. If people don't like it thats 1/4th of a day where some people won't even bother to glimpse at your channel. I think they would be better off creating newer hour long programmes that keep the channel flowing with a pace, putting everything under one branding just gives (to me anyway) the impression of we can't be bothered.

Its only a better brand because GMTV is currently very tired and lacks identity and direction. GMTV needs to go back to the old format of a main pair of presenters from Monday-Weds with relief on Thursday/Friday like it was before Fiona left. None of this "all 4 on equal footing" rubbish, it makes the show lack identity.

If you think back a year This Morning was in a mess- Phil & Fern partnership had gone stale, the format was tired and Ruth was presenting more and more instead of Fern. One year on, a new presenter and an overhaul later, the ratings are at the highest they have been for years.

Thats the kick up the backside GMTV currently needs; I really hope that the reports earlier in the year are true and Eamonn is in the running to return. I think it would be some much needed good PR for the show and could steer it back down a more newsier route. It would be nice if they paired him with Ruth (which if the initial Eamonn returning report is true, and one of the insiders has pretty much confirmed Ruth is a Lorraine stand in) then I wouldn't rule it out but its unlikely. We all know they're a good pairing and it wouldn't fall flat. But one thing is for sure and they can't do the relaunch with the 4 presenters they have currently got. Its just pointless otherwise.

Don't they do that anyway with Ben/Kate Mon-Wed and the other two Thu/Fri. Anyway, if ITV want to save cash how about presenters working more than three days a week!

It's main problem is it doesn't know if it's news and lifestyle - it tries to be both, but ends up doing both rather badly and annoying those who want one with too much of the other.

If I were ITV I'd just put the contract out to tender and see if the market can force prices down. ITV really have nothing to lose if GMTV is axed and replaced by a new breakfast show, especially as it wouldn't be an outside station coming in and producing the programme, but an independent production company producing it for ITV instead.

well I thought it wasn't really ITV's descion - isn't it Ofcom who puts the lisences out to tender?
Also ITV have just paid how many million for the remaing 25% stake - there not just going to get red of it!

ITV purchased the remaining stake in GMTV to take advantage of the full advertising revenue generated in this time slot, axing GMTV won't affect this unless they put an even more dire programme on in it's place which scares the advertisers off. Why let Disney have 25% of it when you can have it all. I'm guessing the sale of Friend's Reunited paid for the acquisition of the final 25% of GMTV as the figures were pretty similar if I recall correctly.

No, they have Kate & Ben on Mondays and Tuesdays, Emma & Andrew on Thursdays and Fridays with both sets of presenters doing alternate Wednesdays. So there aren't really distinct 'main' presenters anymore. I agree that they should be doing more than a 3 day week! But its not going to happen (shock horror at the thought of a five day week).

As of late, it's mainly been Ben and either Kate or Emma, haven't seen Andrew work his regular slots in ages, he did do last Wednesday though. To me it's been:

Monday - Ben and Kate
Tuesday - Ben and Kate
Wednesday - Ben and Kate
Thursday -Ben and Emma
Friday -Ben and Emma
