That would sound promising if you could elaborate. Would it be contained within the same sort of set (ie same design) and would it mean that the show would be extended to have a more 'This Morning' style format?
I am liking the idea of a new news area!

It doesn't mean a new news position.
For all you know Penny could hop onto the sofa for headlines and a kitchen could replace the news desk.

Or they could simply swap to ITN at GIR for the news!

I've always thought a kitchen would be good, especially 7:30 onwards. Though that does scream 'This Morning'.

It depends if ITV want GMTV to be more like This Morning, or if they want it to be more newsy, basically repeating the ITV News reports.

If they're going for cost cutting then the obvious thing to do would be to have 'ITV Newshour' from 6am-7am coming from ITN, Emma would probably be best fronting that because of her Sky News background and she doesn't really have the personality for GMTV. Then from 7am-8.30am should be the regular GMTV Today slot, maybe taking a more 'This Morning' approach but with news updates from the main presenters (read in the style of the current newsdesk, maybe even having one presenter stood in front of a plasma screen whilst reading it). For big updates or breaking news they could probably cross to ITN in an attempt to make it seem more serious.

I think the crucial thing is the main GMTV slot. They can fix the newshour and Lorraine's slot doesn't need touching, but the main show is a bit of a mess and with this relaunch they either need to take it towards heavy news, or towards lifestyle. At the minute they seem a bit unsure about which way to go. Personally I think they should go for the latter.

GMTV had a 'kitchen' in 93/4 I think. But do we need more cooking on tv?

Indeed, when they had the first revamp to turn the set into a TV-AM clone, the kitchen was the one bit that remained from the original look.

However, if they didnt want a permanent cookery setup, easy enough to roll a worktop in and out, surely?

This Morning used to do it in the early days of the current set- where the kitchen is now, they used to have the second presentation area with the white sofas.

I think GMTV could definitely benefit by moving to studio 7 (the skyline studio formerly used by London Tonight and GMTV have temporarily used it in the past).

Its slightly smaller than studio 5 but I think they could get away with it and it could give the set an edge over the current one.

Wouldn't look great early on a winter morning though.

Not necessarily- it depends what they do with the set around it. Loose Women never really had that problem when it occupied that studio (albeit in a later slot). If they left it how it is in that clip then it would look too cold and clinical, and as you say it wouldn't look good. But if they used it as a backdrop and added a set in (even if its the same one as they currently have) they'd probably get away with it.
