Wow, you must be an insider! You're so cool! Can we be friends?
I'm not sure weather your being sarcastic or not
If your not being sarcastic - I'm definitely not an insider. I just meant that a few months ago, someone asked the same question and I said then that the website had already been up for ages - that's what I meant by " I'd seen it way before.
and after 17 years with the company without getting herself embroiled in a controversy whilst remaining both professional and friendly when either suits, Penny Smith is favourite for the axe, as is John. That sums up the route GMTV is going to take from now on. Apparently ITV News will replace the Newshour.
I'm sure its similar to what some said here all along. I think it will be ITN staff presenting it from GMTV studios, or just an ITV Morning News for 6 - 7am and then updates during GMTV.
It funny to look overseas to Australia, where they completely relaunched their morning show - Sunrise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3FcX4voCr8) and here there is some much debate about who should go and what the new format should be like.

I think to lose penny would be a shame. She is much better than the likes of kate. As john is near retirement surely not a shock if he did go??
What we would be left with if this did happen surely gives an idea of the direction ITV want to take GMTV. Apart from Emma Crosby the others are unbearable and only suited to fluffy tv.
I feel strongly that GMTV doesn't/shouldn't become ITV News, in the formatic and visual sense. I know ITV now owns GMTV, however, I think that GMTV should retain its individuality. The last thing we want is GMTV overtaken by ITN. In a rather vague example, its almost like Craft taking over Cadbury! For the last 17 (?) years GMTV's brand idenity has been consistent (despite the rebrands ect) in the sense that it has always remained true to its core viewer. Now, the viewing demands have evolved. No longer is the viewer wanting cozy celebs chats, but news. I would like to see GMTV face this new era as a company and work with GMTV's traditional approach to branding but with a new, newsier stance. To do this, I don't think ITV News are need needed. Nor does a lot of money need to be spent. I apologise for recycling old posts by saying that if both the BBC Breakfast format and the GMTV format were merged, it would create an immensely successful format that would satisfy the viewers completely!
