Trouble is if GMTV becomes too like This Morning, will ITV want to continue with the both of them?

I can't see there being any truth in the rumours of Eamonn returning - they're wanting to cut staff, not bring people back, and I doubt the price tag would be worth it.

Probably, I'd guess they have 2 slightly different audiences and no matter how 'This Morning' GMTV goes, I think it will always retain the current affairs slant rather than seeing what bargains you can pick up from Primark or whatever. I don't think ITV will be axing This Morning in a hurry, the ratings are currently the highest they've been for years. Since Holly Willoughby took over, the show has an extra 0.3m or so viewers and a higher male % than ever before. (Bare in mind 0.3m for daytime TV is a fairly large amount).

Rumours in one of the papers today that they're after Kay Burley, and want to turn it into a clone of Sky News. Quite possibly nonsense, but thinking about it, she would be ideal if that were the case. Very competent with live news, slightly older than your average presenter (considering all the ageism stuff that's been in the news recently about TV presenters) and a very good background in journalism.

If two presenters are going, then I'd imagine Stapleton and Shepherd are vulnerable, Garraway slightly less so, Crosby safe as houses. I also can't imagine Penny Smith going anywhere, but stranger things have happened.

Could you imagine - if the rumours are true - Kay and Eamonn presenting GMTV at the same time. I say John & Emma on Newshour, Eamonn & Kay Today

I think GMTV has a real chance, to be a good breakfast show if it would only take inspiration from across the pond, where NBC's Today blends well: news, sports, weather, cooking, health, travel, interviews and movie reviews as well as human interest pieces.

The idea, of Eamonn presenting alongside Kay is an interesting one, however, needs to be remembered that Kay has recently signed a 5 year contract with Sky last year.

Personally, I would stick with Penny and John with a full hour of news and current affairs and call that GMTV: First Edition. Then move to have the main GMTV show emulate move NBC Today rather than This Morning, so it can retain its breakfast news format.

As, for the axe of two presenters, I would say Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway are the two I think should go, as although they work well, I just enjoy the show more with Emma and Andrew stronger chemistry.

Why has GMTV stole all their female presenters apart from Lorraine Kelly from Sky News to front a predonimantly non-news programme?

In what way is it non-news?

Why do we want two BBC Breakfast's? One of the reasons people watch GMTV is because it isn't all News orientated, and because it's different from two people in one space for 3/4 hours.

But why then have the ratings for BBC Breakfast gone up (AIUI) and GMTV's viewership decreased somewhat? It's all about the view of an audience from the perspective of the programme makers. For instance - there is absolutely nothing wrong at all with taking a very stuffy and highbrow format and making it more accessible and "lighter" for a different audience. The problem GMTV and some other broadcasters currently have (IMO) is that they've never stopped trying to make it accessible. Faults occur and then the rivals learn from the mistakes, build on the successful bits and pick up the viewers.

Perhaps an ITV News-branded segment would work well and tie the entire breakfast slot together with the look of news/current affairs on the channel. We cannot predict what will happen, but if it is decided that ITV News should appear on ITV1 between 6 and 7:00, you can bet on the News at 5:30 being shelved.

When they stole Penny it launched as a news channel. When they stole Kate it was still very news-orientated. When they stole Emma it was the 2009 relaunch and they attempted to make it more newsy, but quickly reverted to what it was but in a new set. Myleene Klass, Holly Willoughby, Jenni Falconer and Ulrika Jonsson were reported to be in with a chance which says it all about the approach it was taking before the relaunch.

I still believe that Kate is a really credible jounalistic presenter who has always been in the shadow of first, Fiona, and now Emma. I think she stilll has chance to prove herslef as a hard-line journalist.

I hope against hope that GMTV doesn't go down the This Morning route, on the other hand, I hope it doesn't turn into a Breakfast clone. I think a format that incorpoates both the current formats from Breakfast and GMTV would be a complete winning formula that would satisfy all needs of the target audience. I also don't agree with having an hour devoted to news, and an hour of more entertainment led stories. A nice balace of the two components would be great.
