On the subject of News, the news presentation area needs to have a complete overhaul. it is absolutely hideous. The screen should be abolished as it looks cheap and isn't used for anything in particular as the pictures never correspond with the stories. The blue is too 'in your face' and overpowering and the shadow it creates is ugly. I may seem to be a tad blunt here, but the idea of this news area is great but isn't being used to its full advantage. It would be nice for Penny to hold a few interviews at her desk, with in-studio correspondents. The area is L-shaped, in a corner, but only one side is ever shown and it all looks tight, crampt and ...blue? Hopefully the new year will bring new chnges to this part of the set, as on the whole, especially at this time of year when the christmas trees frame the presenters beautifully, the set looks pretty good!

You wan't that kind of presentation, switch to BBC One. GMTV is GMTV, you cannot change that.
I'm surprised noone has picked up on other rumours in the press yet. I can't remember which articles but I have definitely read there are plans to overhaul the format. Apparently they want 6-7am as either kids programming or GMTV Newshour from ITN and GMTV Today as an early morning version of This Morning with GMTV ending at 9am. So where that leaves GMTV Today and Lorraine Kelly is probably quite uncertain. But I doubt that end time will happen anyway. ITV should consider an arrangement with STV and UTV to end GMTV at 9.30am, even if it means giving away airtime on a Saturday or Sunday (meaning it ends at 9am on the Saturday/Sunday and 9.25am the other).
I can see them having ITN produce the Newshour, but if they want to give it some gravitas ideally what they should do is have John & Emma presenting it. I like Penny but her personality suits 'normal' GMTV much better and if they want to go down a more heavyweight route it might not be appropriate to have her host it.
I missed Dan Lobb today, but I caught his interview with Ben and Kate before he took up his new role and thought he was ish. (can anyone provide caps of his presenting??)
I was underwhelmed by the show this morning, I thought the new year would bring a few tweaks. The awful news area was still just that! Earlier, someone mentioned that the ticker would return with a new look but I didn't see it. I would like to see GMTV go down a slight BBC Breakfast road with 2 presenters reading a news story, that would help the show appear more newsy. I also get irratated with the inscesent moving of seats! Surely the sofa is big enough for guests to be interviewed on the right hand side!
On a more positive note, the 7:00 TOTH was stunning. The camera angle and motion was great and made the studio look really good. the window actually looked like a window and the buildings appeared to move with the eye, unusual of a 2d photo. The titles looked good and it was refreshing to see the 'home' titles being used. The CGI's looked so much better than the tacky festive ones of late!
GMTV needs a sports presenter to focus on the major sporting events that will happen over this decade and a sports presenters would make GMTV seems slightly more all rounded on all aspects on news: news, sport, entertainment and weather.

Plus there's a kind of major sporting event happening in the UK in 2 years time...
