NEIL THOMPSON APPOINTED GMTV MANAGING EDITOR AND SUE WALTON APPOINTED GMTV EDITOR
Neil Thompson has been appointed as Managing Editor of GMTV, taking over from Peter McHugh, who announced he was stepping down as GMTV Director of Programmes earlier this year. He will leave at the end of 2009.
Thompson, currently Regional Director for ITV Yorkshire, ITV Anglia, ITV Tyne Tees and ITV Border, will take on Peter McHugh’s responsibilities for GMTV editorial and programming with a broader remit overseeing the ongoing review process. Neil will work alongside GMTV Chief Operating Officer, Clive Crouch and will report to Alison Sharman, ITV Director of Factual and Daytime.
After 10 years as the editor of GMTV, Martin Frizell has decided to step down. Sue Walton, currently ITV Daytime’s Head of Daytime and Lifestyle programming, has been appointed Editor, GMTV on an interim basis.
Frizell said: “I’ve had a blast but it feels like this is a natural time to move on. We have achieved all that we set out to do, have won awards and made the sofa the institution that it has become.
“I wish Sue Walton all the very best. She inherits an amazing team. In front of the cameras, we have grown some of the best presenting talent in British television and behind the scenes GMTV has producers and journalists who are second to none.”
Clive Crouch said: “Martin has been a fantastic editor and has made an invaluable contribution to the success of GMTV over many years. He has been instrumental in the editorial and commercial success of GMTV and I will be very sad to see him go. I wish him all the very best for the future.”
Neil Thompson has a long journalistic career which began in regional and national newspapers. He moved into television in the late 1980’s, joining London Weekend Television’s factual and current affairs team. Neil was a member of GMTV’s launch team in 1993, as a producer and then senior producer before rejoining LWT in 1996 as Channel Editor of Talk TV. He became Controller of Features & Current Affairs for Anglia Television in 1998, then Controller of Programmes and later, ITV Anglia Managing Director in 2006. He added responsibility for ITV Yorkshire in 2007 before undertaking his present role in 2009.
Confirming the appointments, Alison Sharman said: “Neil Thompson's journalistic experience stretches over several decades and I am delighted to welcome him back to GMTV as Managing Editor.
“Sue Walton is one of the great talents of daytime television with a track record in building and re-invigorating some of the best loved ITV daytime brands - Loose Women and, most recently, This Morning. I am thrilled to be able to announce her arrival at GMTV and look forward to working with her and the team in the coming months.
“Neil and Sue’s experience in news and daytime programming will be invaluable in developing the GMTV brand and leading it through the review process.”

You summarise it nicely, even though everyone tends to say that haven't whined about the changes.

TBH This thread is usually filled with a bunch of whiney twits who have far too much time on their hands and obsess over a insipid show which runs for a few hours in the morning.
I think they must all be kids.
Oh snap, did I just say that out loud...

Insipid eh? But I thought you "lost sleep" over the GMTV rebrand earlier this year?
And as for "whiney twits", all you ever do is bloody whine - I've never seen you post anything remotely constructive.
