I'm a bit puzzled as to why ITV buying Disney's 25% should make any difference. With 75% of the company, ITV already had a controlling stake, and so would already have been in a position to do exactly what they wanted, whether it be renaming, rebranding or tattooing the presenters' foreheads with ITV1 logos.

If they were wanting widespread changes to GMTV, I see no reason why they wouldn't have made them already.

Not strictly the case. Although ITV had a controlling interest, it was a separate company with its own internal structure which had to answer to both sets of shareholders, ITV and Disney. ITV as a shareholder would have limits to what it could do to the company it had shares in, and had to be on a reasonably level playing field with Disney. Sure it could force shareholder decisions through if it needed to (I guess - I don't know the constitutional structure) What it couldn't do was merge departments, as Disney still owned a portion of the company, and so merging divisions would have been problematic.

Now GMTV is wholly owned by ITV, ITV have access all areas and can effectively merge GMTV with ITV if it wants to.

Arrow BBC Breakfast News , BBC1

The average bod in the street wouldn't notice the error!

Or that the channel was referred to as "BBC1" rather than the correct "BBC One"

Indeed! It's another gripe of mine that owing to space restrictions on Sky's EPG, they have listed both BBC One and BBC Two as 'BBCx + region' since their introduction on DSat.

I'm sure they could've shortened the regional abbreviations sufficiently to allow the full BBC ONE and BBC TWO to be shown, as they originally were.

I just can't see ITV sitting back & making minor changes across the whole company especially with editorial content of the programme & on-screen presentation.

I'm sorry but I have a nasty deep feeling inside that ITV will make major changes to GMTV in all areas, For example, Just look at the editorial content & on-screen presentation of ITN's programmes on ITV1 & the ITV regional news programmes, They were never this bad or looked so bad on-screen until ITV Network got the grubby litte hands on them.

ITN is just a Franchise & they changed the on-screen presentation of it's programmes on ITV 1 even though it doesn't hold 100% shares or total control of the company.

GMTV is a Franchise as well but holding 100% shares & total control of the company.

I apologise if I am wrong but I can't see ITV sitting back now owning GMTV without putting it's ITV brand stamp on everything.

They did it to ITN programmes on ITV 1 ( National & Regional News ) so why wouldn't they do the same GMTV ?

Ask yourself is the GMTV brand & well & respected Brand name still or are viewers still angry with the company after the competions saga, softly softly approach to News content & it's previous mishandling of the Local News Bulletin opt-outs which became a joke in the end & must of embarrased certain Presenters in the Regions, although I don't know whether these opt-out Bulletins are still having problems ?

GMTV- The Brighter Side, But for how much longer ?

ITN and GMTV are quite different. ITN is not a franchise, it is effectively a contracted programme provider just like any other production company. GMTV is (or was) a broadcasting franchise with a remit to broadcast on channel 3 during the hours it does.

You give the impression that on-screen presentation of things like ITV News changed only when "until ITV Network got their grubby litte hands on them" but that is to misunderstand the client/channel relationship. The client gets what the client wants, don't they? ITV News looks (and looked) the way it does because that's what ITV want. Channel 4 News (also made by ITN) looks very different because that's what Channel 4 want. This has always been the case. You seem to imply it's strange that ITV get the look they want on ITV News even though "it doesn't hold 100% shares or total control of the company". Of course it gets the look it wants - it's paying for it!

GMTV was different as it was effectively a separate broadcaster. Until now.

I loathe the fad for writing out the numbers as words instead of the traditional BBC1, BBC2 names.
OK, the fad has lasted since 1997.
Thank goodness the Radio Times ignores it.
And I remember TV-am's own promos describing it as being on ITV.

On a different note...
Does anyone know when we will see the Christmas presentation come into place?
I know a couple of pages back someone commented on it but there was no comment on when they will actually appear on our screens. From what I can gather doesn't it normally come in about 1 week into December?

Looking forward to seeing how they have managed to adapt the current package for christmas.

Remind me what BBC2's current symbol is again. It's not a giant Arabic figure is it?

You know what, I believe it is - and has been since the above was dropped. But that's the symbol, not the name.
