In the end, the only likely change that will probably happen is the kids programmes at the weekends. ITV wouldn't meddle with something popular on their hands.

Though as GMTV is being soundly beaten by Breakfast these days - is it that popular?

Well compared to the ratings of its other rival, Sunrise on Sky, it would say its very popular. I think its ratings slump is due to being too fluffy and too newsy. No proper TV stars guest on the show anymore.

GMTV would have acquired any content from Disney under commercial terms.

I agree that the comments about getting rid of the GMTV name and branding are jumping the gun somewhat. It's such a recognisable service so I can't see ITV getting rid of it. Although they have done stranger things.

They may want to provide some consistency with their news programming and bring in ITN to provide the news bulletins throughout GMTV - no point having a separate news team solely for the breakfast service - but that's all that I can see happening.

ITV News should get rid of ITN and move their service to the South Bank and merge theirselves with the GMTV news team.

Quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've read.

Ok mate. You must not listen to the things that comes from yourself then.

I can definitely see GMTV News picking up the ITV branding. It will probably move back to a CSO screen with Penny or whoever in front of it, I can't really see them crossing to Grays Inn Road at that time and that frequently.

It could be the kick GMTV needs to claw back a bit of gravitas.

That's why I can't see it moving to ITN unless all of GMTV goes there. Penny continues to do the news updates after the Newshour.

No need to be so touchy. I said that the most likely thing to happen (in my opinion) was the GMTV News team being replaced by updates from ITV News/ITN. That would tie GMTV closer to ITV1 and bring about the sense of cohesion that ITV want with their programming. And anyway, it would be cheaper for ITV to get ITN providing regular ITV News bulletins throughout GMTV than have a separate news service just for one programme; it is clear to see with things like the 'brand re-alignment' of ITV News earlier this month that ITV wants all its news programming on ITV1 to be consistently branded throughout the day just as it is with BBC News on BBC1, from Breakfast through to the Ten.

Hey you was the one being touchy with your direct comment to my post. You can't blame me for coming back with that.

Also, whats to stop the GMTV news being gathered at ITN and being presented from the South Bank? Of course with the ITV News logo etc.

I can't see many of the GMTV reporters being up to the standard of ITV News's though.

I wasn't being touchy, just stating my opinion. You say that ITV should drop ITN as news provider - bear in mind that most of the journalists at ITV News are employed by ITN, not ITV - and imply that they should bring the news provision in-house by 'merging' somehow with GMTV News. I can't see anything like that working, just look at the current situation regarding regional news - if ITV is not willing to make that themselves anymore, why would they bring the national news in-house?

Yes, a logical solution would be for ITN/ITV News to provide the news but presented from the GMTV set.

Well ITN provided the news for The Big Breakfast for the best part of a decade - the news from a CSO set up at ITN, The Big Breakfast obviously from Lock Keepers Cottages. Similarly with RI:SE the news was presented at a different studio to Sky News.

And nowadays of course nothing to stop news being gathered at one site and presented from another, as happens when it's anchored on location. Indeed with technology nowadays it makes little difference whether the news is broadcast from the room next door or the other side of the city. It's not like if a story breaks they'd have to physically take an updated script to the GMTV studios.

Yes but GMTV News is a green/blue colour

Off topic, and perhaps related to the ITV takeover, earlier on Xtra Factor they shown clips of what contestants have been up to and John & Edward appeared on GMTV. But rather than just listing it 'GMTV' as programmes usually would it was 'GMTV, ITV1' so that pretty much confirms ITV are now treating it as a show rather than a separate channel.
