This Moring, there wasn't any news update from the news desk at 7:15, instead, at 7:18, there were some new semi transparent straps that were green with the NEWS logo on and the presenters read the news headlines to the old Newshour bed. I didn't notice whether it happened again after this. Could anyone clear this up?

Yep - its all change the news at quarter past and a quarter to will now be read from the sofa - it saves time and allows for an extra news item, its also thought that it's a more 'punchy' way of presenting them. This will happen again starting tomorrow from 0615.

Back to how is used to be then, at least from the news desk, the program seemed more news based. An appauling decision imo. The only thing that would make it slightly better is to have a different bed playing, as the current one is so old and un-newsy it actually hurts my ears. Ok, a bit of an exaggeration, but I think they should change it back to being at the desk. Punchy? Sounds more like a drone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought during GMTV all the regions go through London (whether it is STC or GMTV's playout I don't know), which nicely ties in with the previous opt-out mistakes that have affected the whole country.

And the TOTH at 8 failed miserable. First an awful camera angle after a monged up transistion to the studio from the titles, then the date didn't appeaer on its yellow board and the coming up boxes failed.

No news desk based updates is a stupid decision. I can see why they'd do that in the Newshour and I have no problem with that at all, but during GMTV Today is stupid. GMTV Today is very showbiz/lifestyle based and its a good contrast to have the main presenters do those sections, whilst the newsreader deals with the headlines. Its just going to blur those boundaries and make GMTV news seem even more lightweight than it already is. Knowing GMTV it will be back to regular news updates next week, but if they for some reason don't do that then they should build Lorraine a little set in the area where the news desk is.

It really makes that much difference to you. Im all for the changes. If you want news presented from the desk, try alternative Breakfast Shows, but I don't think you find it on BBC, maybe Sky then?

"Its like, I aing gonna watch GMTV no more, because the :15 news updates are not done from the desk anymore"

And back to this argument again, don't tune into GMTV if you want news. Its not a news programme, it's a TV Channel.

Cross Channel stated that the :15 and :45 news updates would cease to come from the news desk. It will still remain for the other news updates - although I do agree that all news updates should be kept at the news desk and separate from the Today strand. It just seems silly if you imagine them reading the latest on Swine Flu one minute and then moving onto showbiz/celebrity nonsense the next.

I don't really care where the news updates come from, I just don't think GMTV are doing themselves any favours by not keeping already lightweight news separate from the main show.
