Question: you're the vision supervisor for GMTV, sat in vision control (the gallery to your left through a window) in front of the lighting desk. All the monitors in front of you go blank, except for your TX monitors, which still has the ticker visible. What do you do? (tip: vision also look after lighting)
Um, sellotape some torches to the camera's and play the closing theme. Then use the ticker to say, GMTV is now handing over to ITV.
I don't think it would be that easy for ITV to take over GMTV's airtime that quick. And I don't think GMTV would want to lose time and let ITV broadcast some crap for free. Anyway, What's the chances of this? If there was a MAJOR problem in the studio, GMTV would play archive footage like they did a few months back during the powercut because of the water mains leak.
Technically, GMTV still had control, and because GMTV was broadcasting the backup VT, they didn't lose air time. They had the same amount of air time, but they played backup first.
If they had handed back to ITV, they may have got extra time one day. Depending on the circumstances.
GMTV won't hand back though as it's complicated from a licensing point of view, bearing in mind it requires handing back to STV, UTV and Channel as well as ITV1. They could send out ITV1 nationwide until 9:25, but I'd imagine STV and UTV will have something to say about that. Also, it'll just be considered that GMTV decided to send out normal ITV1 output during GMTV's licensed time, and therefore they aren't entitled to airtime during ITV1's hours.
What seems to have happened to Lorraine's titles is that they have been edited for the September overhaul, so they aren't as smooth now and so that the GMTV zoom thing can come in, just pointing out.
