I agree. I found the last few comments confusing - GMTV *is* what TV-am was.
I think thing is most the people commenting (like me) have probably only seen a few clips of TVAM on YouTube and that can't give you a full understanding of the programming, quality of the journalism and features etc.
I can't comment on TVAM myself for those very reasons, but all I was saying is that if it was in anyway superior the show would be very different now. In the same way the feel and tone of ITN Evening News has probably changed in some respects.
It really was the same show - but I suppose it had less celebrity because there really wasn't the same culture those days. Lots of guests though. Always seemed to be chatting to someone on the couch.
The banter was great. Anne & Nick is what I think when I remember TV-am. And Wincy Willis and Rusty Lee and Gordon Honeycomb.
It was less flashy but as slick.
I think you're right to say it would have evolved over the years - but that would probably amount to endless chatter about the woes Jordan and Peter Andre, and frequent quirky satellite links to Hollywood etc. Inevitable really. I don't blame GMTV for doing all that. They'd be crazy not to.
I've never warmed to GMTV in the way I did to TV-am, but I'm prepared to believe that's just rose coloured spectacles at work.
Either way, if I could be 20 again and therefore not be old enough to have ever seen it - well, that would be just fine.
