Breakfast TV favourite Kate Garraway left GMTV this morning to have her second child
Kate thanked viewers for their good wishes as she left the show to begin maternity leave.
Kate, who is expecting her second child at the end of the month, will return to the GMTV sofa in the autumn. "The props boys are so relieved," she joked. "They`ve had boiling water on standby!"
Co-host Ben Shephard surprised the mum to be with a huge bouquet of flowers and a cake live on the show this morning.
"Everyone`s been so kind," said Kate. "I`ve had all sorts of lovely messages and good luck cards. Thank you all for your good wishes and for your knitting - it`s been brilliant!"
Colleague, Emma Crosby, will step up presenting duties and cover the majority of maternity leave, and will be helped by her colleagues at the station.
Penny Smith will take on four weeks across the summer and Carla Romano one week in August.
"We all wish Kate the very best," said Emma. "I`ll have to invest in a second alarm clock now!"
