Exactly, Rob. Well said. But back to the Garraway interview, where everyone was saying how good it was, and bemoaned my comparison of the same against the likes of Doucet and Wark. It appears what people actually meant was that it was a "good interview within the context of GMTV's usual style", and not necessarily a "good interview" per se?

I still stand by my specific comments of Kate falling into the trap of the interviewee turning the tables and asking her a question, which she went on to try and answer, and even insisted on being allowed to give her answer.

Other early morning breakfast presenters on other channels (which someone above remarked that breakfast television is not serious and hard hitting and people don't want heavy news in the mornings) such as Sian Williams / Kate Silverton / Lorna Dunkley / Susanna Reid / even GMTV's own Emma Crosby would not have handled the discussion in this manner by entertaining the questions of the interviewee.

I kind of disagree. I think the word we're all looking for is "discussion" - Kate and said gentleman had a discussion about the previous day's events, during which the two transferred opinions. Kate was careful to back her arguments up with viewers' emails and texts (although the mound of paper on the desk can't have been very good for GMTV's green credibility) and it may not have been a very good interview, but was certainly a good discussion.

On terrestrial TV? Ok then.

Yes, JAH. I will go with your use of the word "discussion". In which case, the component of Garraway entertaining questions from the "guest" could be permissable, I guess. You raise a good point, I guess.

I don't get to see GMTV and only saw the clip on Youtube in fact. Against the backdrop of what I would usually watch and what I would usually consider an "interview" by a tv news journalist, it didn't agree with my usual belief of what an impartial interview should be.

Just out of curiosity, I note that the co-presenter on said day was Andrew Castle. Does he ever do any of GMTV's "harder-hitting" discussions, such as this one that Kate did, or does he normally steer clear of it? I am guessing that GMTV always ensure that within their presentation pairings, at least one of the two is from a journalism background in the event that Breaking News occurs? Or am I being rather simplistic in my assumption? If my memory serves me correctly, Andrew Castle is a former sportsman?

Both females are journalists, both males are from a sports background so I don't think they have to really think about their pairings.

I thought it was both.

I don't accept that she "fell into a trap". I think she was endeavouring to put to him a different viewpoint - a "this is what others may say" perspective to see how he responded to that.

You failed to specify in your original post.

As itsrobert has already said, the BBC's Breakfast programme comprises a news-based agenda until half past eight, by which time I'm usually out of the house and at work.

Other than that, I do have the option of digital, so I can find a channel that suits my mood on any particular day.

Not everyone in the morning wants to feel comfy and cosy.

I think the moral of the story here is that there will always be refuseniks that can't bring themselves to stomach a compliment for something they have spent so long blindly criticising.
I'm particularly amused by the poppycock from the BBC Tristram who appears to have written and signed off the rule book on interviewing.

Would have helped if your actual post didn't HAVE to include the natural reflex hit out at the BBC.

Like I said, GMTV looks a lot softer and cosier, and Kate hosted a good discussion.

Praise where praise is due indeed. Now let's go to Carla, who'll shout at me from Hollywood about who's been doing charlie in the toilets.

Can't see it mentioned here in the thread, but here's the close to GMTV on Friday - using the orchestral theme. Sounds great!
