Well they have changed the stand since the original relaunch. I don't know why they think this one looks better.

Is there a company that manufactures plasma screen stands which have two tubular chrome supports; there doesn't seem to be any other way to hold this sort of screen within the TV environment.

Yep - Unicol... They are the main plasma manufacturer - and many of us will remember their school TVs being on similar stands...
I know some set designers work VERY hard to avoid using them or to hide them - whilst others just accept them as a fact of life. The advantage of them is that you can vary the plasma height quite simply by sliding the plasma mounting up and down the tubes.

And it looks so much better now that shadow has gone as a result. Plasma is also on a new stand.
how come the plasma has no border? is it just a really fancy one or is it just a blue panel they are keying onto?
It's a bezel-less Plasma screen. A bit more expensive but they do exist.

I hope there'll be a few more changes to the news area. It just doesn't look 'newsy' enough - the wooden window doesn't work.
To be honest, I could see it being replaced altogether - and, judging by what they've done with the lighting, I suspect they're not too happy with it.

According to a previous post from an oily rag the lighting changes seen this week were originally planned for the relaunch but their installation was held up by The London Studios.

Is that the lighting change, changing the lights in the news area from yellow/orange to blue? I was expecting a bit more seems as though it was delayed.

Yep - bezel-less plasmas have almost no surrounds. They are a lot less robust (because they have explosed glass edges) but can look great. They can also be used to make video walls - though the joins are still pretty visible.
I think a few shows have begun using them recently.
