Had a quick look at GMTV this morning - interesting stuff here about the unaired music.

For the main sequence, the old music still just about cuts it IMO - but for the Lorraine Kelly version of the titles, that's where it rather doesn't work (it needs something lighter and the timing seems completely off); so the new piece would have been more appropriate there - without a doubt.

When it's taken into consideration, perhaps they should have run with the new pieces - I reckon it's better tailored to the visuals.

Liking the hook at the end, but it does end a tad abruptly for my taste...

No doubt the background music bed or whatever it is called would have been played out as soon as the main theme had ended so it wouldn't have ended abruptly...

I like the fact that it stops abruptly. A sharp mix to studio would be just right - without a bed or backing track.

I would keep it pacey.

I think that this is really good and not too far from GMTV. At least its new and fresh and not 2 versions of the old GMTV today theme being mixed together and sounding strange. They could have kept the music for the main ident i.e for the end of the show and when they go to local news but i think this new music is nice.

ANOILYRAG are you there to help?

Am I the only one who thinks the unused music is desperately bland and non-descript? It's like some muzak from a washing powder commercial. At least the current theme has a bit of oomph and pace, and a strong tune to it.

I do agree in some ways the new music does not have such a strong tune but its a case of trying something new. I like the most recent version of the GMTV tune - the current opeing titles at 6am and 7am but its a case of bad continuity again because the theme tune is mixed up. If they had recreated the into and out of break stings when the new music was first introduced in 2006 it wouldn't be a problem but at the moment it sounds quite bad.

Was too 'wimpy', too 'local tv', too 'so what'?
Love or hate GMTV, everyone has heard about it, everyone has seen it and everyone has an opinion about it. If you have a brand that strong, it's not clever trying to dilute it.

By that logic, ITN would still use the tumpty-tee music they used to start the late news with. I think the brand is sufficiently solid - and as you say, everyone knows who they are and what they do.

A wasted opportunity (in my view) not to use the new theme - which is every bit as catchy as the old, but more upbeat as well as suiting the title sequence.

As granny used to say - a job half done... makes a mess of your pants.

Tumpty-tee? What theme is that? And as for a job have done...........................hilarious.

By the way, I actually quite like the GMTV newsdesk area. It's a nice change from........what it used to be like.

Caught a bit this morning and though Emma was fab, very relaxed yet incredibly competent. I think she'll give GMTV a hell of a lot of credibility back.

On the topic of Emma, I thought she was great this morning, such a good presenter for GMTV.

As for the new music that has been found, I'm very glad they never used it. It's similar to the style of Sky News' - it lacks a lot of power. It has no real theme to it, I didn't like it and I don't think its powerful enough as the GMTV theme.

Also, I'm getting a little bored of the news updates at :15 and :45. Its the :15 one that I dislike the most. I mean, Penny comes on at 7:00/8:00 and by the time the local news is over, its at least :12. Leaving about three minutes for a short story before handing back over to Penny for the headlines. Its a little daft I think, it seems like you're seeing more of Penny than the main presenters.
