Personally, I think it would make much more sense for the bulletins to be at .30 and .45 instead of .15 and .45. After all, if the news finishes at 7:08, there are only seven minutes until the next bulletin.

thought I had seen that set before in the dark recess of the Sky EPG

I see they've already found an extended use for the 'newsdesk area' after 8:30.

Surely with the addition of a couple of comfy chairs and a few plants this would be more suitable for Lorraine's slot, even though it's abit cramped? Most of her segments are recorded, so they would only be moving the desk on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Firstly I absolutely love the new look, and can't quite really understand why there are quite a few of you don't aren't convinced. I understand that more than one person wanted to see radical changes however, with the TV industry facing an advertising revenue crisis and GMTV's audience strong and loyal, why on God's earth would they inflict undue pain on themselves by radically changing the channel and possibly alienating some traditional viewers.

Cramped could become cosy, but if the right furniture was put in they'd be able to pull it off. I'd be very surprised if that wasn't done in the long run.

When using PBU or projected "window" backdrops you have to be quite careful not to shoot wides straight into the corners, as it ruins the illusion. (Both The Andrew Marr and The Politics Shows usually try to avoid these kind of shots for this reason I believe)

Also - is it me or is the "laminate floor and light wood" look already feeling a bit dated? (It feels a bit Ikea to me - and the GMTV implementation feels quite cold and stark)

I think the new skyline backdrops are not actually projected but blown-up and illuminated photographs. But yes the problem is still there. With such backdrops angle is important- not only shooting into corners but also very high angle shots.

GMTV use a lot of these such shots (like the Lorraine one above) which with the new backing totally ruins the illution as the backgroup appears very 2D and does not move with the shot as it would in real life. For this reason BBC News currenly avoid extreamly high angled shots and major moving shots in their news studio as they have a fixed (albeit animated backing) while ITV News (who have a CSO generated backing which changes with the camera) do.

"The only problem with 'corner' shots is if you catch the edge of the canvas showing the background"

...as in any filmic shot. It's a 'background' picture, and everyone knows that.

Hardly the sort of schoolboy error they would make on purpose during a live TV broadcast. It's a TV programme, they know their limitations.

I didn't get chance to come on yesterday, but I'm liking the new look.
I don't think the music is too bad, I do think that they should stick to using one of the themes and beds. They're currently using the previous GMTV Today sting and bed which I think fits in well, more so than the continuous use of the 2000+ GMTV Today ad sting, and full theme used for Lorraine, why have they continued to use the 2000+ top of the hour sting music at the end. I think that they should stick with the previous GMTV Today music and cut it for ad stings, etc.

I do like the news area, the desk is nice, as is the screen and I love how it has the short sharp intro. A good use of the news area with Lorraine, though I do like her on the main sofa, and using different areas breaks up the show a little.

Have they done anything with the performance area?

I did think that the set looked a bit better today, beneath the windows had a lovely yellow glow today which did improve it. Usually I'm not a fan of flowers and plants, but this set could do with something to break it up a bit, and I'm not sure what.

I was looking forward to new weather graphics, but the old ones do the job perfectly I suppose.
I like the main graphics. I like how the on screen graphics tie in with the clock. Anoilyrag, do you know how the graphics are supposed to animate when they have the Vizrt system is installed, and any idea when that will be?
I do like the lottery style rotating ball (used on the news intro), and I like the way that the full screen graphic is used to break up stories rather than a wipe.

Are there different versions of the titles? It would be nice to see different sunrise shots used in and out of breaks too. The titles remind me a bit of RI:SE Mk 2, but in a lighter happier way.
