Looking at images on here now, i'm slowly beginning to like it. I thought it was a bit too... packed this morning, and a bit too bright. There was also way too much news! from when it started at 6am until it went into the first break, they had 2 news bulletins which is a bit much. Don't like the idea with "This is GMTV with Ben Shepard and Kate Garraway" either. It's a bit too formal for GMTV. After a few lighting tweaks it should look quite good and the titles will be much better with the new music. Clock needs to be made slightly smaller too.

First thoughts :

1. Nice that the news presenter has a "real" set. See they are using a single seamless / bezel-less plasma?

2. Main set looks slightly "wrong". Think the window frames are too high, so you see too much wood and lamp in the two shot and not enough view. Either the sofa needs to be higher (on a rostrum) or the windows lower.

3. Not sure that curves work on News graphics. They have a slight CBBC feel to me...

Here's my thoughts.

I woke up at 6am, expecting big changes. First of all, the must was a bit of a let down, but in some ways I am glad they decided to keep the old theme, which does actually fit in with the new titles.

The titles themselves are lovely. They remind me of the old ITV Day idents, and I honestly like the fact they've done something different, and quite quirky. I like the light blue thats been incorporated also, much better than the dark blue from the previous titles.

The set. I'm in two minds on it, I was really shocked at first. The sofa seems so old fashioned, much like the one from the old, old set (with the yellow walls) I was also quite shocked at how high the backdrop is, I thought it looked too high, the sofa being on some sort of stage, too raise it a little, would look much better. Also, the backdrop is much nicer but a little too dark and fake, there should be some better lighting on it I think. I do like the curved style though, every other studio has had two straight walls creating a upside down 'L' shape, but I think the studio looks more warm with the curved wall. The news area looked a little shabby to me also. I wasn't sure on the background and the angle of the LCD screen, but it was okay.

Now thinking back, I do like the set. It is very warming yet modern. However the colour looks a bit dated, it looks beige bordering on light peach!

As for the graphics, I LOVE them. That curvy style is so good. The graphics are much more modern, the font is better, the style overall is much less shabby.
The colours for different topics was a bit silly though:
Orange for Coming Up/ TOTH
Cyan for Name straps
Navy for Live straps.

Which I found a bit too mish-mashy. I didn't like the ticker and I find 7:30 a stupid time to take it off, it should probably be taken off at 7:00. I found it a little distracting.

The clock font is also a bit too big, but I think its to line it up with the "GMTV" font.

All in all, a good go at a new look by GMTV. Nice graphics and titles, and a different set which I will get used to eventually!

Is the new look GMTV still in Studio 5 at the London Studios, as I have heard that they now split the show between two studios. Would this be Studio 5 and 7?

You heard wrong. The whole programme still comes from Studio 5.

Surely that should read "The whole channel still comes from Studio 5."??? Razz

GMTV needs new some new management. If what we saw this morning is the culmination of months of planning, then it's time for all of them to move on. An opportunity wasted.

Do you know what the aim was? If not, how can you possibly say they've failed?

Much more news and a shift of audience to include more men was the aim.

I have to say I love the new graphics, shame the music hasn't been updated along with it.

It seems management took that aim very pragmatically, by merely placing news at every 15 minutes, and making the general atmosphere of the show a bit more 'beefy'.

There's "more" news now that there's xx15 and xx45 headlines...but it's just re-reading the same 3 stories over and over. BBC has a higher story count. Content of the prog not noticeably different.

Overall, having seen most of GMTV this morning - I can see I like the new look, apart from a few things:

Arrow The colour of the ticker is off-putting, and I agree with those who have said it should be taking off screen at 7, and not 7.30.

Arrow I really don't like the titles for "GMTV with Lorraine", they look really dated, and a bit spooky as well. The GMTV Today theme doesn't work well either.

Arrow The different colours for the straps - Weather has a deep yellow colour, Coming up is orange, and the name straps are light blue (this has probably already been mentioned.) I'd keep the orange and blue, and use the orange for the weather as well.

Arrow And, the website still seems to boring. All they have done is replaced the old logo with the new. It needs to be overhauled, IMO.

Anoilyrag i am slightly confused when you refer to the animation of the titles etc. What exactly is there that is supposed to be happening that isn't happening now?

I actually really like the new GMTV. It is a LOT more consistent and a lot cleaner. There are a couple of things though. One being the studio as mentioned I just don't quite get the whole covered in wood thing especially in the wide shots and also the amount of colours used, just needs toning down slightly. I think that people should remember that it is a breakfast show and it has to be light and bright and fresh which it is.
Music wise i think that they can get away with keeping it as it is but the theme tune coming in and out of breaks on the old today section needs scrapping and just needs to be like Lorraine's - a newer version. They still don't seem to be able to make that theme tune consistent. Grr!

I like the fresh new look GMTV has got for 2009, a new look at the same time as not going mad with a completly different idea that wouldn't feel like GMTV

Most complaints would be replaced by the opposite opinion if they had done differently, 'too much news' is the best one. Remember you aren't supposed to watch GMTV for hours and see 10 news bulletins with the same stories.

I like the fact that they have kept the music is a positive in my opinion, how many historical themes get replaced by some forgetable rubbish? Remember the comments about the other show that Ben Shepherd will appear on this week?

The real news set and the animation that goes from GMTV>News is the best bit in my opinion.

Nobody ever called Lorraine's bit 'LK Today' in conversation in the real world, they just called the whole thing GMTV. The fact that they've reinstated the old 'GMTV Today' theme tune here is a bit odd though, they should have just used the same music as the rest of GMTV did.

For those of you not living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, here is a cap from the local news for N. Ireland - Central and North of Scotland bulletins also have this same look:

Any changes to the English regions and Wales bulletins?

English regional bulletins just had the new GMTV logo on the plasma's.

As for the GMTV With Lorraine titles, I think they should swap with the GMTV titles, using blue for the first scenes, and orange when the GMTV logo forms.

As I previously said about the graphics, I love them. Especially the News sting.
