..but then I quite like the NBC Today show logo - which this is very obviously based on.

It isn't really, it has a similar colouring but that's about it. If anything, it screams "Iceland" (the supermarket, not the country) to me.

Today was indeed screened in the UK, by both Sky News in its very early incarnation (two half hours of it only though) and later in its entirity by NBC Super Channel. Hasn't been seen since 1995 or thereabouts though.

And of course anyone wanting to watch the first hour of the today show and clips from the show can do so at their website www.todayshow.com

Sky are now in contract with CBS.

They seem to have started using the new logo to advertise some features this week. It looks abit disorganised when they then go back into the programme using the current branding.

Don't channels normally make two sets of promos when they are rebranding, so that the change is seen all at once?

That's what i thought, seems someone is eager to get the new logo on screen.

I could have understood if it was advertising features for after the relaunch. But perhaps they are testing the waters with their new logo and getting people used to it ahead of the relaunch, so they know its still the same GMTV?

So the inconsistencies have started already, BEFORE the refresh.

No doubt they'll be getting feedback from some viewers on the new logo- if there is an overwhelming negative response about a certain aspect (e.g. glossyness) then they can tweak it before Monday. Also as I said earlier it may be getting viewers used to the new logo before it goes fully on air so some might not feel alienated by the new look. But contradicting that, most people still aren't back at work, so the viewing figures are probably lower than usual anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Before you get all TV svengali on us... could it be possible that the PROMOS are the actual teaser promos revealing nothing about the new look except the logo, and content promos rolled into one?
Two birds with one stone... now there's a concept.

Well well, interesting reactions so far. Will be fun to see the jaws drop on Jan 5th.

it'll be a change from seeing the ratings drop.

Relevant 8 months ago. GMTV has been outperforming BBC break again lately. During the Mumbai bombings, more people watched GM than Breakfast. Or to put it another way - the worlds smallest newsgatherer beat the worlds largest.
Knock GM by all means, but it does achieve targets and upset rivals while having a little fun in the morning. Night night.
