I read over in one of the BBC threads that Kate Silverton is being considered for the GMTV role. Someone please confirm this rumour is nonsense, so that I can sleep peacefully tonight.

Sleep easy, she's not even pipped on the radar. Too auto-cutie to be taken seriously enough to potentially fill 3 and a half hours of breaking news on her toes.

Despite the fact that she's done it many times before, and continues to do it on BBC Breakfast?

I don't get your bias against BBC presenters. Fiona Phillips is twice as vacant upstairs as half the presenters on the BBC network (or at least appears it), and Ben Shepherd is seemingly the definition of male auto-cutie.

I don't think Kate would go for it anyway. She turned down five news, which yeah is not exactly as big, but I believe her reason was purely that she was happy at the BBC and wanted to stay there.

I honestly cannot think of any current GMTV presenter capable of that.

Now she would be excellent actually. Can't see her wanting to leave News at Ten to wake up at 3am every morning. I guess Selina Scott did it years ago though! It was all new back then though....

Penny Smith
John Stapleton

Think she might give it a good thought because of News At Ten ratings, did i remember rightly it couldn't break 2 million in the summer?

John Stapletounge could successfully fill three and a half hours with "er", because this phrase alone makes up the majority of his sentences.

Penny perhaps, and even Kate, with them both having news channel backgrounds.

Ha ha! One of the funniest lines I've seen written in a long time.

Yes - Kate can read autocue very effectively. However she can also anchor a continuous news channel and has coped with breaking news on countless occasions. She may have had a bit of a baptism of fire initially (not helped by her co-presenter on News 24 resigning) - but she's certainly far more reassuring as a breaking news presenter than any of the GMTV presenters.

The only GMTV presenters I can think of with approaching the abilities required to do proper breaking news are Kate Garraway (who was excellent at Sky and News 24 but has become a bit too "Heat" magazine since she joined GMTV) and John Stapleton.

Surely Ben Shepard is the definition of male autocutie?
