I know what you mean - clearly set design has to take the aspect ratio of the shots into consideration and the GMTV revamp will probably take advantage of the change to widescreen with regards to their set. But your specific point about framing is not quite right. Widescreen effectively gives you a wider field of view, so cameras don't need to be physically further away from the subject in order to achieve a similar shot. Normally, it means that single presenter shots are slightly tighter so as to make use of the extra space left and right.
