It should be interesting then in the Granada area when Jon Mitchell is on. He waves his hands around so wildly that he'll do a great job of obscuring the whole map.....

The graphics do look nice and clean, but they also bear a distinct resemblance, the clouds in particular, to the kind of graphics TTTV had around 1993. And I thought they looked dated then...

Good to see an invision weather presenter on Granada again. I could never understand why you could hear the Leeds presenters doing v/o but not see them, whrn you could on YTV and TTTV.

Of course GTV have had invision weather before. Fred Talbot used to present the weather within Granada Tonight. Usually a pre-recorded film sequence from a local place of intrerest in the North West, which always ended with him saying 'So..what have we got for tonight', then it would cut to a weather map slide and Fred's voice over with the details. Occasionally he would present from the Granada Tonight studio and have a bit of chat with Lucy et al.

I know Fred was an aquired taste, I quite liked him, why did GTV sack him ?

Ahh nice...... bring back graphics from a few years ago - much better than this modern crap. I think the graphics being used have a more 'contemporary' look to them. I do think they need to do something with the number of bits used in the colours though - looks something like 256 as there is no smooth transition at times, especially with the blue 'sunburst gradiant' background. I noticed this problem whilst watching analogue, however, me thinks there is a problem with the digital links being used - could be wrong.

One point to make is that, the old YTV Weather graphics were based on the local ident, and the new set arn't, so if/when the idents do change, the weather won't have to change as well

For those that are interested, I heard that Anglia Weather actually does come from Norwich. Like the news, there are separate bulletins for the East and west of the region and they are done by the same presenter - one is recorded, and both played out at the same time.

Anglia was the first station to do local weather.

Regarding Fred Talbot (and his jumpers ), to my knowledge he
left of his own free will. Just got a bit fed up and has moved
abroad somewhere.
Presume where the weather's good.Very Happy

Anglia introduced those graphics late last year, when they changed to the Met Office. Meridian have been introducing them with the new look news programmes over the last few weeks.

So Anglia hasn't changed today, still their own presenters, just moved the 6pm forecast to 6:25.

They also use those graphics for Airwatch.

Also, the Anglia Weather website must be one of the best regional weather sites around.

Aaron, I think you are slightly wrong as to when the new weather graphics were introduced. In fact, it was the 3rd January this year.

Granada got Leeds' finest, Jo Blythe, yay!

Anyway, I'm happy now. It didn't take long for Newcastle to throw GMG's guidelines out the window and reprogram their computer to suit them Very Happy

Out go the dark grey 'Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Sunderland' etc city names, back come Bob's anagrams, barometer checks, sea levels, camera footage of the region on the early evening bulletin rather than a formal front-screen, Bob's comments on that front screen when it's on, customised place names and sub-regional maps. Yay!!! Good on ya City Road!!! Very Happy The map spelt out DAFT today, I wonder if that was a coded analysis of GMG's weather rules....

Who says they were rules?
Maybe Bob, with him being a bit old, needed a day or two to get to grips with the new software Very Happy
