The Viewback survey in the Summer when the plans were first known about did mention a News ‘Half Hour’ With Charlotte til 6.30.
That gives Piers a 30 min lie in.
Could do an NBC and make it completely advert & competition free...would be popular I think.
There isn't usually an ad on GMB until around 6.45 before the paper review anyway.
I assume that advertising quotas are allowed to be spread across a day (or a designated portion of a day) in a manner that isn't literally X minutes per clock hour?
If, say, viewership is relatively minimal during some/all of the 6am hour, but picks up considerably from around 7am onwards, then clealy ITV and its advertisers would want the ads to coincide with when more people are tuning in.
During live football, for example, there'll be two periods of at least 45-minutes each with no adverts. Hence why the pre-match/half-time/post-match sections of the coverage seems to be a bit of a "more breaks than programme" affair in order to compensate.

If NBC decided to do their breakfast show in the middle of a battlefield do you think ITV should follow suit?
An ad-free breakfast programme is one of those "would be nice" things, but realistically its not going to happen. Its the adverts that fund the programme after all. There may be a PSB element on the occasions where they go into rolling news mode and to hell with the adverts, but that's very much the exception.
Have you got a problem or something? Clearly viewers who tune in for the start of the show HATE Piers going off on a rant, so having the first 30 mims as ad-free news would appeal to a large part of the audience. Your comment seems fairly childish...
It’s always been the case, even back in GMTV days that the first hour had minimal adverts, as of course they’ll get more money for adverts at 7:45 than at 6:15.
With regards to ITV News being relaunched in 2020, January 2020 will make 7 years of the current look for ITV News, and I would suspect a possible tweak or new look from January.
The current look has done ITV News very well since January 2013. I liked it, but I do feel 7 years is enough time for a refresh to take place. Maybe not a complete overhaul, but small little tweaks, and a change to the bank of monitors view we have had for the last 7 years.
A night time view of London would be wonderful for News at Ten, but I won't hold out for that.
There is no connection between a new schedule starting in January and ITV News getting a new look.
ITV News getting a new look is now no more or less likely to happen
Of course everyone can talk about a new look for the rest of the year and then get disappointed when the completely made up new look doesn’t materialise if they so wish.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
There's no point in them changing it or making tweaks just for the sake of it.
Tweaks have been made in the past with previous looks which have actually made them look worse rather than improving them IMO.

It was not me who started the speculation on a new look to ITV News - was Ben Shatliff - I was just commenting on his views.
With regards to the announcement, people are saying that it's boring, no excitement to the schedule, and all this other stuff that frankly, doesn't even reflect the upcoming reality that is going be television and video on demand.
You already have Netflix and Amazon Prime and Britbox. Next year, we're going to see Disney+ launch in the UK. The time when television can put on pre-recorded programming for hour after hour, day after day, week after week is coming to an end, as all manner of material will be available on demand. Live programming is the way to go, and from January 6th, ITV will have a guaranteed 9 hours a day of live programming. 6am to 2pm, plus the Evening News and the News At Ten.
If American television is anything to go by, and I'll stress that that can be a big stretch, we will see eventually live programming extended earlier, to maybe 4am. You can come up with a multitude of rationalizations as to why a 4am start is too early, but I counter that by saying look at radio. Heart have an early breakfast show across the UK starting at 4am. Magic have also done the same. LBC have an early breakfast show too from 4am. That's just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
I honestly think you'll see more of this in the next 5-10 years.
Radio has always been and will continue to be a different beast to television. Early breakfast on radio does well for those finishing up on a night shift but you're hardly going to find the workers in the Tesco warehouse tuning into the 4.30am news with Derek Dull.
And of course with radio it’s just a case of branding programming you’d probably already have, as a form of breakfast show. As most stations with early breakfast shows have presented programming through the night anyway. It doesn’t require any extra infrastructure.
There's no money to be made at 4am on television, there's a reason Nightscreen is there. GMB at 6am is perfect because the majority of people will be getting up at that time to get ready for work and probably will have the TV on to catch up on news etc.
