I’m an 18 year old (born in 2000) and I know exactly who Andi Peters and Roy Walker are. I find that quite offensive. What an ignorant statement to make if you can’t back up your facts.

Blimey, I'm usually quick to defend those who call millenials 'snowflakes'..... pull yourself together Rolling Eyes

He was out of touch with the target audience of 15-29 year olds, he was doing the show for those in their 30's. How did an 18 year old in 2009 relate to Terry Wogan's Blankety Blank? That's not to say they've never heard of it, just they've no connection to it. The programme was riddled with references from the 70s and 80s,

Nick Grimshaw was specifically chosen to try and chase off the older demographic and drive it younger.

Scott Mills, as others have suggested, would be a good hiring. I had no idea Scott Mills was 44, although I’ve thought for a while he’s seemed a little out of place at Radio 1

Yes although he is the same age as Chris Moyles he has survived longer because he plays more to the target audience of the station. Moyles was great on Radio 1 but I am his generation, we have common cultural references so I understood a lot of the jokes and items, whereas an 18 year old knows nothing about Roy Walker or Andi Peters. I remember they had an in joke about 'target reference' which was obviously what the management were often complaining about.

Radio X is a better place for him, he likes the music better - he had contempt for what he played on R1 - and the audience is older

You're an 18 year old on TV Forum. Enough said.

I do find it interesting that Greg James' breakfast show seems to have a number of 90s references, which are just as dated as Moyles doing 80s references ten years ago. Not that it troubles me, but I have noticed it.

Radio 1 keeps waiting too long to give the breakfast show to the people who are the most obvious fit for it. Greg James should have got it 7 years ago when it went to Grimshaw. I get the feeling in a couple of years he's going to sound as out of touch as moyles did not that long into his tenure.

Following on from Global's announcement on Tuesday, I hear that Bauer is due to make an announcement tomorrow too.

I’m sure Bauer will be watching the implementation with close eyes. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more local closures and removal of historic brands before the end of the year. Removing Key 103 with Hits Radio I feel was merely the start.

I had a discussion with someone I know that worked at a Warrington based radio stations until a few years ago and we thought that stations like Hallam and Aire FM etc would just be rebranded “Hits Radio Hallam” “Hits Radio Aire” eventually

That sounds plausible, but I don’t think any change would go down well in Liverpool. Worth noting that Bauer have purchased the Wireless Group stations which cover areas such as Warrington and Wigan. Ideal conversions for GHR possibly...

I know they officially take control of the Lincs FM Group, Wireless and Celador tomorrow.

All I know is that they're making an announcement to staff tomorrow. For all I know though, it might just be that they're reinstating free tea and coffee for staff at the Lincs Group stations. Wink

Don't forget they'll be allowed to say "Kids." I understand there's a ritual tie burning ceremony in the car park of all Lincs sites tonight.

I think the big announcement was regarding Scala and Disney.

Bear in mind Bauer haven't been allowed to even enter Lincs/Celador/Wireless sites until today, so there's still a LOT to sort out until they can plan exactly what they want to do and when. For example, the technical side. Wireless still use satellite for their network programmes, whereas Bauer (I assume) use IP. Celador and Wireless play off Zetta, Lincs sites use Myriad but Bauer use Dalet (*spits*) - so there's all that to consider, as well as which sites to keep and which to lose.

The thing I don't get about Bauer is they have these wonderful multimedia brands in Heat, Kiss and Magic but haven't, as yet, used them on their local portfolio. Kiss would be a huge success on the Birmingham and Coventry TXes for example, and taking the Heat brand using Gem talent as a basis would be a brilliant competitor to Heart. Then get Magic back to Easy Listening. In situations where there's also AM, there's the option to run Absolute 80s or similar. So, for example, you could put Kiss on Hallam, Heat on the four ex-Lincs stations that are currently hubbed at Doncaster and then Magic on the AM side of Hallam.
