Still, could be worse than some 'turse' tweets and posts on the Heart facebook page.

Not facebook page, facebook pages. Heart has multiple feeds for each of the old Heart regions, and every single one of them, had thousands of comments, saying I'm not going to be listening anymore. You add all those up, you realise that this backlash was way bigger than anything that ever happened before. And that was just facebook. The Twitter feeds were exactly the same, and it was shocking to see. It was unexpected. I didn't think the reaction was going to be anywhere near that intense, and that negative.

Global appear to have deleted the local Facebook pages for Heart - probably to prevent any big backlash of comments when local breakfast shows end tomorrow. It’s much harder to hide negative comments on Facebook, whereas on Twitter an accounts mentions aren’t thrown onto someone’s timeline like a Facebook posts comments section is!

Worth noting that ahead of the changes to Heart, the Communicorp owned BOB FM flips to Heart tomorrow. It'll simulcast output from their sister Heart station in Watford.

I think it is incredibly telling that they are keeping the regional breakfast shows on Smooth after the large backlash that they got after announcing the national Heart Breakfast show. .

Was there one though ? I don't recall rioting in the streets, or anything beyond a few local newspaper mentions ?

If you think rioting in the streets is the only signifier of discontent, you are way out of touch.

Was announced yesterday and it's back a few pages in this thread.

According to this week’s Popbitch email:

Quote:
Global made a significant U-turn today, announcing that Smooth Radio's breakfast shows will now be staying local – and not, as previously announced, folded into the station's national output.

Insiders are wondering if the decision maybe has something to do with the fact that Davina McCall was all lined up to take the Smooth Radio breakfast show national, but things fell through when she requested that she get all the school holidays off

I don’t think listeners are anywhere near as bothered as some here seem to think, and those who are claiming never to listen again inevitably will do.

I used to be a regular listener to what was 2-Ten FM, or Radio 210 as it was originally called, but stopped listening once it became Heart.

I now avoid listening to Heart as much as possible.

I am sure there will be listeners who will do the same following the ending of the local breakfast shows.

Not many though.

Whenever there's a change to a radio station schedule there's a bit of a fuss and listeners will dislike the changes, it's a very personal medium and some of these presenters have been on their local stations for 10 or more years. However it passes and the new shows start and they bed in, people get used to it. There's a bit of churn in audience and after a few months it's all forgotten.

The success of the new breakfast programme will depend on how good it is, not on how local it is. As I understand it the stations will still have some local news and travel (although not as local as it was in some cases).

Personally I think Amanda Holden is a mistake, she's a divisive figure. If they had Jamie Theakston and Davina Macoll.... now that would be a killer combination

Isn't the news as local as it ever was, I thought that was the deal for allowing to network 21 hours a day? So even though the new "local" programming is across the ITV regions, the news bulletins still match the original FM licence? (I may have got that wrong but I was sure the Myers report made news the key bit that remained local)

As for the new breakfast show - with chemistry like this, they're onto a winner...
