+1 channels are very handy. I wouldn't call them ghastly, they're no more ghastly than the channels they timeshift

I think the main problem with be a rights issue. Whilst BBC2 shouldn't be a problem as such. The likes of sport on BBC1 and ITV1 would mean a caption going on for a few hours saying "due to legal reasons..." Similar to what we get on ITV2+1, ITV3+1 at the mo.

..and that is so useful to have (and admittedly no dross there!) So why won't the other major terrestrial broadcasters follow suit?

What Dross +1 are you thinking of on Freeview? There's only ITV2+1, Channel 4+1 and E4+1 on there which I think are very useful.

Am I missing something here, but with all the transponder / freeview channels filled up with Dross TV and Dross TV+1, why can't we have something useful like BBC1 +1 or ITV1 +1?

Ditto it.
If there's something good on at 9pm on E4, I usually +1 it and watch something else prime-timey.

I think +1 channels are quite handy to be honest. Mind you saying that with digital TV you never really get a chance to miss something as they seem to repeat things again and again.

The +1 channels are quite handy, especially if you haven't got a PVR. They're more worthy of their place on Freeview than the shopping channels for example.
There was talk of plans for an ITV1+1 channel - and I'm sure if it launched it would replace ITV2+1 on Freeview. Regionality is also an issue though in that regard.
I can't see the BBC ever being allowed to have them - on Freeview at least. I suppose they could have them as a selling point of Freesat, but again regionality is an issue.
C4+1 is handy, but it annoys me how it's seemingly now treated as C4's premier digital channel. More4 and E4 should never have been moved in the Freeview EPG to give 4+1 a prominent position.
It also annoys me how they keep promoting things on C4+1 as beginning now on +1 - but of course if you're already watching +1, the announcement is an hour out of date.

I'd have thought they'd just use ITV1 London for that. I don't think it's really important or feasible to timeshift every region. STV and UTV might want to do their own thing though.
