As for the episode itself, it wasn't as good as I expected. I've seen much better.

I agree
Too much of a hype was made towards this and it ended up being a bog-standard episode

Also wasn't BBC 2 even further further behind Sky than Channel 4 is.

When the BBC first started showing The Simpsons, they were 6, going on 7 Years behind Sky, what also didn't help was originally the show was only being shown weekly on BBC1, then it switched to BBC2, became twice weekly, then thrice, then every weekday, so by the end of the 1990's they were about 4/5 years behind.

Sky got immediate rights to the programme and started showing it in September 1990, the BBC were apparently offered, but refused at the time, So Sky had exclusive rights for the first 6 years of the show's UK life. Though the BBC showed The Tracey Ullman Show, which was originally home to the 30 second episodes, they didn't show The Simpsons in it, in the US it was merely regarded as a Breakbumper.

To quote Ned Flanders, that was the best episode of Impy & Stimpy I've ever seen!

Technically, Channel 4 have still yet to show Series 13, which started in late 2001 - so they're actually five years behind. Will probably be four by the end of the year, though.

so when are c4 going to start showing New epsiodes?

also I agree is was ok nothing great!

That's always a problem, when an episode of a programme gets so hyped up that people expect so much from it, so much so that they almost always turn out to be a big dissapointment. However considering the fact I won't see these for another 4 or 5 years it may be better seeing it that time round.

It was, I'm afraid, one of the poorest episodes of The Simpsons I've seen.

I've got a feeling Sky told Ricky to include all the High Definition comments

Er... I don't think so! Don't forget, SKY don't make the Simpsons - FOX do!

Errrr beginning title sequence actually made by SKY and SKY actually use it to promote The Simpson on it channel.

Fox has also started using the SKY promo to promote Simpsons on FOX.

FOX is majoritly owned by News Corporation (a Murdoch Company!)
SKY's biggest shareholder is News Corporation (a Murdoch Company!)

see any similarities between SKY (UK) and FOX (US) ???????

Yes but that's not really Channel 4's fault though is it seeing as SKY seems to have precidence over the rights.

However, BBC2 paid a reasonable amount of money to air old episodes of the simpsons at a time when it was still a luxury to have more than 4 channels. C4 paid an astronomical amount to nab it from BBC2 in a time when access to Sky One isn't a big deal at all and countless people download episodes from the internet. I think C4 made a huge mistake with the simpsons - they paid well over the odds to air episodes which much of it's audience has allready seen countless times.

There are episodes on Sky One now confined to the daily 7-8 repeats cycle which still haven't seen the light of day on C4. And when C4 aren't even allowed to put it on their other channels (Friends for instance is a much bigger asset because they can fill out time on E4 with it), one does have to wonder quite whether it was worth it.

I've got a feeling Sky told Ricky to include all the High Definition comments to advertise their HD service. It was a very convenient time, what with Sky releasing Sky HD and the constant ads about it.

Remember that HD has been aroun far longer in the US than over here.

Also if events in the UK could have such an effect on the content of the programme tere wouldn't have been such a high proportion of American jokes, such as the reference to Gay adoption
