...and Sky slagging Channel 4 (April 2006)

Great Sky One moment in the middle of Gervais' Simpsons episode:

Just after the adverts, a green background came on with the word 'APOLOGY' and a scrolling message underneath saying something along the lines of

'Sky One would like to apologise for a recent Simpsons advert featuring Ricky Gervais. Ricky claimed that Channel 4 show new episodes of The Simpsons three years after Sky One. We now except that this incorrect. Channel 4 actually shows new episodes of The Simpsons FOUR years after Sky One'.

It was read out by the normal announcer.

I can't remember the exact wording, but I'll check out the recording of it later. Can they do that? Laughing

As for the episode itself, it wasn't as good as I expected. I've seen much better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fox put a thing in the contract Channel 4 has to air The Simpsons that Sky One can say such comments. As for the episode, not that great. Also, quite a bit of swearing for a show that is popular amongst children, I could imaging quite a few complaints going to Ofcom for not cutting it out.

The problem here is that The Simpsons isn't, and never has been, a kid's show. It's an image the show never seems to been able to shake off in this country, even Live & Kicking showed it afor a while.

I've got a feeling Sky told Ricky to include all the High Definition comments to advertise their HD service. It was a very convenient time, what with Sky releasing Sky HD and the constant ads about it.

Not even funny in the slightest - the episode itself I mean. The first part was more like an extended promotion for Sky HD Rolling Eyes

Er... I don't think so! Don't forget, SKY don't make the Simpsons - FOX do!

I'm bloody fed up about hearing about HD at the moment.

Even if you have a HD ready TV (which I do), you still need to buy another cable for £60, and only very few shows will have it anyway! What's the point? You'd be better waiting for a couple of years when the price has gone down, and plenty of shows are in HD!

To reiterate my post from the "Bad place":

Bowel-churningly awful. The apology really was the best thing to come out of it.

Don't be stupid. Why would Sky One need Channel 4's permission to say that? Did you get Sky's permission to make your post about them?

The episode was average at best. The Sky One comment about Channel 4 was brilliant though. About the only thing i laughed at!

And like people have said, those Gervais clips are cringeworthingly annoying!!

Thought the episode was great! Sky One's highest rated Simpsons episode was 'Skinner's Sense of Snow' in February 2001 (1.65 million) - judging by all the hype, this'll probably surpass that.

Technically, Channel 4 have still yet to show Series 13, which started in late 2001 - so they're actually five years behind. Will probably be four by the end of the year, though.

Yes but that's not really Channel 4's fault though is it seeing as SKY seems to have precidence over the rights.

Also wasn't BBC 2 even further further behind Sky than Channel 4 is.

Add to the fact that if you don't have SKY then to the majority of viewers they are techincally "new" episodes to them.
