Are you still a fan of the format now it's just 'Schlag den Star' where two celebrities face off against each other and there's no involvement from Raab?

I still really enjoy it, much better than the few episodes where they changed it to 'Schlag den Henssler', which saw members of the public face off against Steffen Henssler. I didn't think he suited the format at all, and was much better on the cooking shows as a celebrity chef.

Last night's episode ran until 1:20am German time - so lasted just over 5 hours! It was one of the best episodes in a long time in my opinion - and shows that its much more about casting the right personalities who are matched well against each other rather than particular sporty people etc.

I now watch it as they are editing out the post game chatter and putting each spiel/game on You Tube via the official SdS channel.

I do miss Stephan and him playing to the 'pantomine villain' role when he was steamrollering the challengers for a quite considerable cash prize. When the jackpot was over 1,000,000 Euro and he was on a winning streak, it did add an extra narrative to the proceedings.

His competitveness was compulsive viewing no matter what the game was. When you cant move your eyes away from the screen as he is trying to win a game based on nothing more than flipping a sugar cube into a cup using a teaspoon as the catapult launchpad, the show is doing something right!

I find SdS sometimes a bit 'mehh', and interesting you mention casting, because the last two shows have featured an all-women line upfrom a similar celebrity background, and both seem more concerned with protracted arguing against the rules of some of the more physical games, which if done occasionally is ok, but every game, just gets tiresome.

That said, the design of the games that don't require the pressing of the buzzers whilst perched on those uncomfy looking seats, are still consistently high - and I would love to see ITV or the BBC buy the rights and give this format another go.

Not a fan of any of that. What's the point in having fake windows if you're going to expose the illusion by propping them up against a 1990s backdrop cloth and show the lighting rig in all the wide shots?

The black studio floor is really drab and already scratched from day one, and there's a bit too much grey for my liking.

Yes I don't particularly like it either. I think the titles are very meh also.

For some time, ARD's One channel has been showing some programmes with original English soundtrack.

Doctor Who, Torchwood and Poirot are among the shows that are being broadcast with original soundtrack.

You can see forthcoming programmes available in English at:

https://programm.ard.de/TV/TV-mit-Originalversion/Startseite

Unusually, English soundtrack (using the Audio description channel) is also on satellite.

Germans used to do something called Zweikanalton (Two channel sound) on analogue with an option between German dubbing and original soundtrack but it was usually not carried via satellite due to broadcasting rights.

With broadcasting rights making it difficult for free-to-air broadcasters to screen programmes with the original soundtrack, most of the channels in Sky Germany's subscription pack do have an original soundtrack option for most imported programmes.

Something interesting and different with TV Advertising I'd not seen before on German TV last night.

Often a show will be interrupted by "Just one spot" and there will be a countdown before the show continues.

But on last nights, "Luke! Die Greatnighshow", which was having a Halloween special gameshow night, the one commercial for Disney + was shown in the studio on a big screen and just panned over to and back from. Perhaps this was to try an make it a more immersive experience and not seem like the show had been interrupted? It also had an on screen countdown clock.

Clip below.

RTL has lost its three coloured logo in its latest advertising campaign.

The different colours have been split apart to make the new 'garish' look.

Personally I don't think its garish, more a modern and refreshing look compared to what came before.

We seem to be too reserved when it comes to presentation over here.
