Miranda Hart is to host a rebooted version of The Generation Game for the BBC.

The classic gameshow, which has previously been presented by the likes of Sir Bruce Forsyth, Larry Grayson and Jim Davidson, will return next year for the first time since 2002.

The Miranda star was rumoured to be in talks for the role earlier this year, and appeared on a one-off special of the show for Comic Relief in 2011.

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore told The Guardian: "It will be a modern reinvention of The Generation Game. Miranda will bring a very different flavour to it.

If this "twist" is her own comedic input, I won't be watching.

I enjoy(ed - series 3 was cut to ribbons in editing) Miranda the sitcom, but this sounds awful.

Perhaps That Puppet Gameshow reset the Saturday evening light entertainment bar a little too low, and they've just commissioned the first thing that looked better than it.

I guess that is a reminder things could be worse. Not a huge fan of Miranda Hart but it is good the BBC are not opting for another rent-a-host for the job.

The trouble with a format like the Generation Game is they can be damned if they do, damned if they don't, when it comes to updating it. I guess the lesson from the numerous ITV revivals is probably on the whole stick with the format that worked the first time and just gloss it up a bit.

I reckon Jeremy Paxman should host......

I think Peter Simon would be perfect for this. He'll be right at home after the demise of bid tv.

Don't forget she'll need a co-host if they stick to that aspect of the original.

I was thinking exactly the same. I know that everyone is entitled to their opinions, so as much as some may not like it I think it'll be a brilliant revival. I know that some frown upon these old ideas returning to the screens, but there's a reason that they did so well originally as they were all good formats, hopefully in Miranda this will have a good level of humour and fun for all round family viewing.

One thing I do hope they bring back is the brucie style drama scenes for the penultimate round - always one of the best bits imo.
