I'm not. I think Peter is far funnier in scripted roles than unscripted. Mel and Sue have far more experience of 'warm and witty' in that kind of environment.

And they have experience of presenting, which would have been the same with Miranda Hart's version if it had happened
Also it's meant to be a programme where the contestants are given a chance to be the star, Peter isn't exactly known for being a generous performer, whereas Mel & Sue had a good rapport with the contestants on Bake Off
I seem to remember that it was just an excuse to get his mates and long forgotten prog rockers on the telly. Lots of cameos by Jess Conrad too
Cannon and Ball were also on it plate smashing every week.
Yeah by the last series and with all the new excitement over on ITV, it had dated rapidly. Technically Jim's tenure should've ended around the same time as Noel's House Party but lingered on.
Seems to be a lot of negativity before this has even been seen by anyone. I appreciate Mel and Sue aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I think they could fit in this genre very well indeed. Bake Off attracted a very wide range of audience - from young to old, what we used to call a 'family audience', so it's no surprise the BBC is keen to find them a format that also might work for that demographic. You can't get much more of a family format than the Generation Game.
My personal favourite host was Larry Grayson (with Isla St Clare as the able assistant). The warmth between the presenters, the hilarious sending up of the contestants, the games and the 'experts' was superbly handled by Larry, who was by then (I think) considered quite a niche performer - the only other show I remember him regularly doing was The Good Old Days. About as
non-
Family as I think you could get, even then. Yes it was ludicrously camp and fairly 'of its time' but I believe the show had its best ratings with him as host, rather than Brucie.
Yes - when House Party dropped Blobby at the start of the final run in 1998, he went to the Gen Game.
It really was a fossil of a programme by the end - seem to recall much sub-Benny Hill stuff with leggy models too. You can also tell from those titles Jim had a hand in choosing Melanie Stace's replacement.
