My first choice for this gig would have been Julian Clary, he's more

Could you kindly inform us ... what exactly have you been smoking to come to that conclusion?!?

It's funny how they came from the largest studio at Television Centre and then used a small stage. They need to go back to the original format and just find a host that works well ith the general public and are really funny.

Well he can keep it clean, he had alot of goodwill from the general public when he was on Strictly Come Dancing and he was actually considered for the job a few years back.

No - Julian Clary should stick to insulting members of the public on The National Lottery Come and Have a Go! He worked well on there - well, I enjoyed watching him...

That's why I think he'd suit the Generation Game, people forget how filthy Paul O'Grady's act used to be, but unlike Graham Norton he has adapted to mainstream TV well and the public like him; the same is true for Julian Clary.

Mind you thinking back to the Brucie, Jim Davidson days...maybe it worked better without a camp host?

Ooh...shut that door!

With Jim Davidson it never worked and Bruce was a sort of straight camp. The new version might work better if they go back to the old format.

I think people always underestimate the importance of the presenter.

Because Bruce did the Generation Game so well it was assumed that there was something inherently comic about the format. Actually, watching someone trying to make a clay pot is not necessarily funny even when they make a mess of it.

And that's why it's wrong to describe Bruce as a 'game show host' because he is never simply a host or presenter but always at least half the entertainment.

I think the description of him as 'straight camp' is actually spot on and I agree that it never really worked with Jim Davidson. It just wan't FUNNY.

Sadly, I suspect the Generation Game is beyond Bruce's powers now even though he has done such a brilliant job on Strictly Come Dancing.

As a one off it was OK. I think it would struggle as a series though. I liked the touches of 'So/V Graham Norton' they added. The 2 shows blended well together.

You're right in what you say about Bruce not being able to do The Generation Game anymore. He did say that he was finding it more of strain when he came to doing it the second time around, he wasn't getting any younger after all.
