Only 5 idents though, better hope that they use them all equally unlike the current batch or it'll be far too repetitive.

Surely there must be more than 5 idents? Even when it was the CGI era at least they varied by introducing menus into the idents. Lets hope there are more than 5!

The menu's for that set of idents didn't last for long and it was effectively the same ident every junction after that.

Depends what the idents are like as to whether 5 are enough, they habitually use the same 2 or 3 idents from the current set anyway.

To the point where you just want to throw your TV away...

I have seen 6 of the 8 idents since they launched and I watch itv 1 quite often.
If the rumours are right you will see the first idents at 9.25.

The launch date for these new idents has been set in stone for over 6 weeks now, I'm amazed it hasn't leaked or that there hasn't been some kind of press release. But tomorrow at 9.25am it is - they're much better than the current set, although there are only four (with another two in production). There's also a Wales specific version of one of the idents, and the obligatory "sombre" version. The old idents were based on "emotions we all share" - the new set is called "alive with colour" and certainly lives up to that, colourful is one thing they couldn't be accused of not being!

There are also new break bumpers, thankfully there are some variants this time rather than the same one all the time. Not sure what other elements of the pres package is changing such as promos etc. But there is one big change that won't be popular...(unless you live in Wales when you won't be affected)

... which was classic ITV. They started off with the makings of a very good idea, but when it became clear that they'd need a bit of manpower and money to keep producing the trailer-idents they gave up.

What gives anyone the idea that if there are a new set of idents tomorrow they won't just revert to form and play out the same 2 or 3 ad infinitum once the set is more than a couple of weeks old?

I doubt it; that's not a big change... you only see regional idents 3/4 times a week so it makes no difference!

Not long to wait now! I'll be setting my DVD recorder for 9.25am tomorrow.

Glad Buster confirmed my 'rumour' as I know a lot of you didn't believe me!!

Fair point...but that was what I was referring to. There will continue to be local voiced introductions to programmes at roughly the same rate as there is now, but no visuals to match, just the usual network idents. Just thought it was quite a notable change, particularly for regions that don't have their name in the title of their regional news programme.

I doubt that the regional variants are made by the design company and are the regional names are plonked on by ITV plc, so what people may have seen might not be what will be going out. I doubt very much whether they'd be allowed to ditch regional names like that, for example YTV's news programme is Calendar, and so they'd get no regional reference to Yorkshire Television, and therefore they cannot promote anything regional, such as regional web-portals and regional events, because people will not be aware of which region they are in. Regional identification still do bring in money and popularity, and without their reference ITV's decline will be more rapid. In reality, there's no point having regional continuity if its not there on screen, plus if the regional name can be done in Wales, its obvious it will be able to be done everywhere else!

This is all meaningless, the name has virtually gone anyway, it's seen on one or two junctions a week in miniscule text under the logo.
