In fairness, Westcountry didn't start their Christmas ident until 7pm on Christmas Eve 1993 - but that was more than some other regions, including Meridian, who I believe didn't bother.

Granada didn't bother at all in 2000, they took the promos and that was it, I would take it the same went for Yorkshire, Tyne Tees and Border. Considering what we had in 1999 it was a bit of a shock not having anything in 2000. And the year after, at least it was an effort, but a sad sign of things to come.

I'm probably right in thinking that during the 1970's and the 1980's that some ITV companies probably didn't bother at all, they might have had festive promos, slides and continuity but the idents would often stay the same.

The same did go for Yorkshire

I remember everyone kicking off about the ident in 2001. Obviously we didn't know then that it would actually be the region's last Christmas

Regarding this year, and the lack of sparklies on the actual ident. The fact that the logo goes behind the action on the ident is probably the reason, as it couldn't be done cheaply, you couldn't just slap them on in post-production. It's a feature we could have done without really

But surely if they superimpose the word WALES over the idents and it doesnt disappear behind anything -surely they could've done the same at Christmas time - with the ITV 1 logo staying 'on top' throughout the ident.

I think this will be the very first year that HTV have never featured a Christmas ident!

HTV havent since 2001 - from 2002 onwards there was no HTV as such just ITV1 Wales Wink

Oh Jez you tease!

To be correct I will iterate that this is the first time that the franchise holders of channel 3 in Wales will not feature any dedicated Christmas idents. (from as far back as I remember!)

I presumed that today (Sat 23) or Frid 22 would have released the Christmas pres on ITV as last year it was released on the 22 Dec.

It just looks like ITV is not going festive this year which is dissapointing.

I would and think that ITV should have done something as it is a prime channel.

I got told that on Sat (by source) there would be some Christmas pres on ITV. Very unusual.

If only there weren't 4:3, 14:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios to consider, they could have put tinsel around the edge of the screen like Tyne Tees did for a while in the 80s. Wink

Just seen the 'Urban Basketball' ident for the first time, IMO it's the worst out of the set next to the beach one.

Well I love it. Very subtle but beautifully shot. One of my favourites along with Bike.

Considering these are so new they could have made one for Christmas as well.

Actually, they've got one already which would work perfectly well as THE Christmas ident - the one with the bike at night

I agree. Add some sparkles and it would work very well.
