They're not giving any credence to Christmas at all this year, preferring to push the Winter Drama trail instead.

Looks like ITV want Christmas over and done with quickly. How hard is it to slap a logo on screen with the 3D snowflakes, they could even trot it out every year.

I agree entirely. It's pathetic if this is the case and ITV secretly wants Christmas out of the way. You see and feel a stark contrast when you flick onto BBC1 and other BBC channels because they embrace Christmas and make a big deal about it. After all TV is a major part of many families' Christmases.

Maybe there was a Christmas ident in the original red bee set which have now been dropped so never got an airing

That's no excuse, more likely they're just not bothering. Regardless of whether there was an ident in the old set, they have the ability to produce something simple in-house. They've done it for other events / programmes.

They choose not to.

Maybe they'll just not air a Christmas ident until tonight at 7/tomorrow/Christmas Eve?!

Well....

No Christmas idents on ITV1 this year. Bah humbug indeed. The next new ident will however premiere on Christmas Day. Might be worth watching before The Grinch...

If buster says there are no Christmas idents then there are no Christmas idents.

I can understand why there isn't any, as they have only just finished recording and editing these idents, and therefore haven't had the chance to make xmas ones. However, I think they could have at least brought back into use the 2003 3D Snowflakes ident, which in my opinion should be used every year. I doubt it will cost the much just to get The Hive to change the logo on it to the current one (which would look nice on the blue background and the snowflakes).

ITV normally launch their festive idents on Christmas Eve - if I remember from a few years back. I'm sure in 2001 that happened.

Yeah I remember quite a few years they launched them on Christmas Eve!

If they haven't got a Christmas ident why have they bothered to make the "1" of the logo sparkly/lens flarey? Seems pointless to me.

This is the first year ITV1 has not had any kind of computer generated ident as part of its package so it's probably just the case that they don't want to step away from the current live action style. Not that it should stop them from filming a Christmas clip for reuse but hey, I bet they don't even know what ITV1 pres will look like in 12 months so probably wouldn't want to waste their money!

For recent years, nothing beats the 2003 one with the big snowflake swooshing past. A proper ident - nice little animation and tune with the logo as the main attraction.

To be honest, I'm more disappointed with C4 not bothering. Considering their package is (hopefully) going to be running for many years, a version for Christmas would have been great - with endless possibilities!

If ITV1 won't bother, the chances of STV doing something festive are quite low...

It seems a shame - ITV really got into the festive spirit three years ago and now they want to be Scrooge?

ITV 2003 Xmas at The TV Room - the best Christmas idents for ITV IMO
