Why do the free DVD's that come with these type of magazines have adverts on them? I thought the BBC wern't allowed to visually advertise?

BBC Television (except BBC World) and Radio aren't allowed to - BBC Worldwide is, which is why there are adverts in the Radio Times and in these DVD freebies. It's because BBC Worldwide is the commercial arm and not funded by the license fee.
