...and that's what makes him funny, he knows he's an arrogant sexist prat but plays up to it. He's a great member of the team, remember what happened when he left first time round, the show was dropped.
If people were that offended by him the show wouldn't still be doing that well
Can anyone remember what year the new style Top Gear started? I have a feeling it was 2002 but im not sure. Top Gear just seems to get better & better with every series lately. Certainly series 9 (the current one which has it's finale tonight) has been absolutly awesome to watch. The show is still extremely popoular as indicated by the current waiting list to be in the audience which is still over a year long. Doesn't it also get one of the biggest shares of the Sunday evening viewing audience? The one thing which does make me laugh is when some people write in asking to see more normal everyday cars on the show. They seem to forget that Top Gear try's to show us what we can't always do everyday. If a new Mondeo comes out you can easily go to your nearest showroom and try it yourself. If a Bugatti Veron comes out you probably don't stand a chance of getting your hands on one, Hence TG fills that gap. It's almost like a soft comedy program whilst also at times being informative and helpfull in making up your mind about cars.
Top Gear is brilliant.
It's The Goodies, with cars.
I think there's room for a more serious Old Top Gear-style of programme. I'd quite like to know if a Renault Clio is better than a Ford Fiesta.
OK, it wouldn't be as funny as New Top Gear or get its ratings, but Old Top Gear and Driven did get reasonably good ratings.
It would be a simple consumer show. Auto Express and Autocar do it every week in magazine form, and there are stacks of monthies too in the same sort of market.
Fifth Gear should stop trying to be Top Gear. It might be able to fill the consumer gap in the market if it got a revamp.

I definately agree. There is room for a car show just about cars we all drive as well as Top Gear. As you point out 5th Gear could do this if they were not trying to be Top Gear. Maybe they could also make a spin off Top Gear show during the week to cover this field.
... Is the reason why they have only done
3
episodes in a series due to the fact that they had limited filming time due to hammonds accident? or are the BBC now really running out of money :

There was six episodes this series & I think it was due to Hammond's accident more than anything else, the previous series was alot longer IIRC

Yup, 6 this series, 8 last series. Series 7 also had 6 episodes but series 6 had a whopping 11.
It varies a lot, at the beginning of the new format 10 episodes was the norm but its around 6-8 now. Fair enough IMO, yes I cant get enough of TopGear but 6-8 episodes per series will keep the show from getting tired.
