The Australian version of FX re-branded as the W Network and most recently this year as The SoHo Network.
Not quite. fX was an old Foxtel-owned female-skewing channel that was later rebranded as W but then replaced by SoHo, but we also have an unaffiliated FX that's owned and operated by Fox International which launched this year.
In Latin America (including here in Brazil), Fox owns both FOX- and FX-branded channels.
FOX, which started here about just under 20 years ago, features shows such as The Simpsons, Glee, Modern Family, Futurama, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, How I Met Your Mother, New Girl and Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. New episodes usually air on the 10pm-11pm (10pm-midnight on Tuesdays, with AHS) strand in Spanish-speaking countries, and the 7pm-8pm and 10:15pm-11pm (10:15pm-midnight on Tuesdays) strands here in Brazil.
FX, on the other side, has a more film-heavy primetime than FOX, and every Saturday night, they have an unedited, commercial-free film presentation, what they call "Sábados Uncut". FX also airs shows such as The Office (US), Family Guy, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show, Wilfred, Homeland and Dexter. Most of their new episodes air on Sundays from 11pm to 1:30am (while The Office has recent episodes on daytime and Family Guy has recent episodes on Thursdays at midnight).
It's funny how one letter can make all the difference. FX brings to mind quality US cable drama and the like - FOX just brings to mind Murdoch and populist rubbish.

So true. Only today I walked past an FX advert at the station and realised that the actual logo is of (I presume) the Fox searchlights. Surely Fox is a tainted brand here?

I'd reckon FOX brings 20th Century Fox to mind for most people in this country - I don't think a huge amount of people will link it to Murdoch, or FOX News.
It's not so much the name change that is bothering me, but their aim to 'widen' their target audience.
If there's anything to be said about FX is that you know what kind of programming you can expect. I guess FOX is just going to be another a-bit-of-everything-channel.
Yeah, FX is kind of what Sky Atlantic should be - and changing it to FOX risks it becoming a bit more Sky1. I would have thought in a tough pay TV market FX was a more attractive proposition to advertisers rather than a more generic appealing channel, if that is the route they're trying to go down.
Trails are now running on the channel for American Dad Season 8 and at the end the FX red rectangle flips over to reveal the Fox logo. It seems to be the exact same logo used for Fox in the US.
There is now a page on the FX website with a promo about the change - they're using the slogan 'First on FOX'.
