Which currently minor news presenters, reporters, etc, do you all think will be big- no, not big, massive- in the next few years? Here's my list:

Rachel McTavish (ITN)
Rachel Harrison (was Granada, now BBC?)
Owen Thomas (ITN)
Carrie Frais (Sky Sports, was 5 News)
Martin Popplewell (5 News)

Anyone care to add or comment on my choices?

I can see Carrie Frais being quite big over the next few years, no doubt Sky will try to hang on to her.
I can certainly see Ms McTavish as a future breakfast TV presenter.

For those who are interested - Martin Popplewell was one of the original UK Today bulletin presenters when it launched, in November-ish 1998. (The same time News 24 moved to it's new and current studio - though with the frosted glass and metal bar set)

Martin even presented the 1830 for a short period (along with Judith Moloney and Dalya Raphael) when it briefly stopped being a simulcast with News 24, because News 24 were covering the Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky hearings.

Yes, that sounds about right. Did he also do overnight News 24 at one point? The 5 News website http://www.channel5.co.uk/news says that he was previously a News 24 presenter. Surely UK Today doesn't count as News 24?

Daylia Raphael, now there's another one, I like her. She was better when she was on Channel 5 though, especially when she flirted with Dominic Diamond on Live and Dangerous when she did the news during that.

I'm also certain that Leyla Daybelge will make it to ITV News fairly soon.

Much as I hate to admit this, but I think that after her life with Look North ends, Christa Ackroyd is national news-bound. I can see her getting on national news. We'll know how big she wants to get if we see her appearing all majestic like in Hello magazine! Oh hell, I'm packing my suitcases NOW for some sub-Saharan indigenous tribe who have never heard of her!

After his performance on The Weakest Link, I can see comedian Johnny Vegas becoming more well-known too. I think he got the better of Anne Robinson quite well. He was polite to her (God bless you) and everything and she couldn't respond could she? I think now I know what to do when I get on!

What about Clare Frisby?! Once they realise they can't afford to pay her enough money to front the Hull bulletin (once it gets established) she'll make the transition to national TV news. Also - I wonder who'll be her stand-in in Hull?! Will they use one of the Radio Humberside newsreaders?

Surely Chris Eakin will be famous soon, as he is the only person who really makes me laugh on News 24, especially in the morning!

I agree with Dave, I'm sure Clare will move to national news at some point. I think she's a really good presenter and journalist and am not sure how long she will stay in Hull for broadcasting to just a percentage of those she was previously broadcasting to.

I'm sure she'll be on a 2-year contract. I think the BBC must have promised her a job on News 24 once they've got their new Hull bulletin established and Look North ahead of Calendar in the ratings. I reckon we'll see Ian White, Tom Ingall or Penny Bustin taking over in Hull a couple of years from now.

Yeah, maybe - I wouldn't have thought she would have moved to Hull without something being promised...

I doubt she will have been promised a News 24 job. She'll be employed by the Regions not News!
