I don't see the point either, they're only there for you to buy the product, not watch it, these sex line channels only need the same few hundred people to phone up and pay £1.50 per minute and the station makes a quick profit etc. The same goes for Shopping channels, some generic product is made, Jack La Lane is hired to film an infomercial, it's played out ad-nauseum, costs next to nothing to show, just needs a couple of thousand people to buy the product, pay the P&P and pay the phone call, AIUI all of this a serious business.
It's a shame this shít is appearing more on Freeview, where there is a lack of capacity, which should be saved for Entertainment, but the way things are going it's more of a highest bidder scenario for Freeview and thus a company gets the space on whatever MUX to show and sell their pap, leaving (most likely) National Grid Wireless very happy and rich.
One would hope that the bubble will burst on these ventures, they just annoy me, especially more when it's coming from ITV, who should be investing into Programmes. (Where as at least Channel 4's Quiz Call, all profits go back into Channel 4/ 4 Ventures and not the shareholders)
Though, if you're the Businessman, if there's a market for it, why not cater for that market? Unfortunately there seems to be a large market for money making channels, and has been the case for many years now, just the fact that the amount of channels has exploded within a few years.

BBC 4 what?
Is it not one of BBC less watched channels .I have not every use it,And it gets a lots less that ITV 2 do.
It's a highly intelligent and unique channel. Despite low viewing figures there are some excellent programmes shown on it. BBC4 is the best example of a good use of the licence fee, it's a channel completely unique to Satellite television, and would be a huge loss, in the unlikely event that it did close down.

I agree with you 100%. My only gripe is that many programmes are repeated too often within a few days of original broadcast, and then never again. I've missed a few Timeshifts I would've watched as their topics are often unclear in listings magazines. They should continue to grow new content, although I'd also like them to show a few more classic drama serials and Play For Today-type programmes from the archive - I really enjoyed "Pennies from Heaven" last year for example.

Contrary to some posts after my long list , I do watch some of the channels such as Sky3 (The 1970's Office and classic Airline episodes), some stuff on UKTV Food, seen a couple of films of the non-sky film channels. Some of my favourite music channels are Flaunt Smash Hits, VH1 Classics and MTV2. I actually like watching Bonanza and Beverley Hillbillies on the Bonanza Channel.
So to say they are channels I don't watch is very inaccurate. My judgement comes from the fact they may have either :-
i) very small viewing figures
ii) the channels keep swapping owners; and
iii) the direction of the channels do keep changing
therefore not gaining an established audience with stable advertising revenue. (except BBC3 which in my case is becoming very stale - it was far superior when it was BBC Choice - but that is only my opinion, like with everything I write on this forum!)

I argee. More 'specialist' programming and themed nights etc BBC3 is just endless repeats and 2nd rate comedies. (Little Britain being the big expection)
One other that annoys me is on freeview... why can't CBBC/BB3 Cbebbies/BBC4 just bloody time share the same channels??? it would be cost effective and tidy would'nt it???
