Just saw an ident on Five promoting the Friends spin-off Joey.
It features Matt LeBlanc sitting behind the table with the letters ivef in standing on the table.
He looks at it, and moves the F to the front so it forms the Five logo.
However, not long after that, in all his wisdom he moves he I to the end...

why are five showing the spinoff? Should C4 not be doing it?
Oh, we are a bit behind the times aren't we. Channel 4 were in exclusive talks with NBC but they didn't come to an arrangement, so it was open to other channels, it became a bidding war between ITV1, Channel 4, Five and Sky One, one by one each channel pulled out saying that they wouldn't pay absurd amounts of money, then Five became the victor. There!
I haven't seen it, but I am surprised that they filmed an exclusive ident for Five.
So was I actually. A few years ago they (still being C5 obv.) had Xena in one of their idents though: "I would love to watch Channel 5 but I'm too busy saving the world and stuff. Hate that!".
Channel 4 were likely to get the rights, but they pulled out, as Five overbid them and Channel 4 thought that the show wasn't worth that much money. But AFAIK Five has bought a package, as they will be showing 'Two and a Half Men' aswell. (Which has been shown on Paramount in the UK)
Five best hope the show will do well, otherwise they'll loose alot of money, as I remember reading they're paying alot of money per episode.
Another massive scoop for Five then! First Home & Away, then Trisha Goddard, now Joey!
It'll be another big test of show versus channel for Five I reckon, but on the whole I think it might bring more viewers to the network and hopefully the channel as a whole will get taken a little more seriously.
Trisha's new show starts 2.35pm on Monday by the way on Five. The shows got a makeover, and has also been renamed. It is now imaginatively called, 'Trisha Goddard.' Oh Dear God!
and hopefully the channel as a whole will get taken a little more seriously.
Beacuse they've got Joey & Trisha?
I'm sure it will have the complete opposite affect on many - including myself. CH5 is, always has been and always will be a joke.
It's a Friends spinoff. People were obsessed with Friends. A Friends spinoff is going to bring SOME obsessed fans over for a start, surely to goodness?
With quality programmes people will tune in, maybe not as much as they would to other networks, but remember Home & Away bought Five it's biggest ever ratings when it returned from its year-long hiatus.
It all depends on how good the show actually is, though it is the highest rated sitcom NBC has had this season, many do say it has been nowhere near as good as Friends. Another factor is that does everyone know it will be on Five? As many are going to expect it to be on Channel 4, telling people it will be on Five might find it hard to believe, AFAIK the show is going to be on Tuesdays at 8.00pm, which is a break from the norm.
Plus I told a few people in my Media Studies group that the show is going to be on Five, and they went mad, asking "Why is it on there?!?!" Though if Five has sense they will give the show alot of publicity, but they'd be mad not to, as they own the full UK rights to it, including Pay TV.
I've seen part of the pilot and I thought it was OK, but I thought it wasn't as good as Friends, but I'll wait until I've seen a few of the episodes before I really judge on how it is.
